Black Intrapolitics: A kind of stereoscopic vision

I once wrote

I sometimes think of the USofA like it's the planet Saturn: Black folks are the ring system, considered part of the planet by everyone that's interested, but not really. It's been suggested the ring system is the remnant of a solid body. In this metaphor, the African American Culture Wars is between those who want to reassemble the shattered moon and those who want to negotiate a soft landing on the planet. And the rings, the individual moonlets, continue the dance that ornaments the planet.

I like that metaphor so I want to work with it for minute.

I think this

is how the USofA looks from the outside, and this

is how it looks to Black folks.

I'd like to include a view of the rings as seen from Saturn, but all I could find was science fiction fantasy art.

wow. interesting

wow. interesting observation. as an amateur astrologer i've found Saturn's symbolism intriguing (The Real Lord of the Rings). the visual way you capture the black experience is just amazing. things just crystalize. recently i was thinking of what African tribes we all came from, melting into one another. the divisions between free blacks & slave, educated & non-educated, house & field, elite & non-elite, etc. i may not be all these things, but all these things are me. and holding onto all that makes things kinda "fuzzy" on the inside (if you know what i mean).

btw, another aspect of the outer view of Saturn is that it appears to tilt from our POV as it rotates around the Sun: up, edge-on, down. like it flip-flops (no comment).

Damn... Dude that is poetry!

Thanks.

Thanks. I really think it's a good representation.
