U.S. Orders College to Drop Fellowships For Minorities

CARBONDALE, Ill., Nov. 11 -- Federal prosecutors are threatening to sue Southern Illinois University over three scholarship programs aimed at women and minorities, calling them discriminatory.
SIU "has engaged in a pattern or practice of intentional discrimination against whites, non-preferred minorities and males," the Justice Department said in a letter, a copy of which was obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.
The graduate scholarships, or fellowships, violate Title VII of the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964, the department said. The letter said Justice's civil rights division will sue SIU if it does not discontinue the programs by next Friday.
Chancellor Walter Wendler said he supports the programs. He said the university sent a letter to federal officials asking for a meeting.

What can we do to reopen the
What can we do to reopen the doors of higher education that they are trying to close to non whites here?
I don't know yet, Shannon.
I don't know yet, Shannon. This is new to me. I'll be looking it up this weekend.
I do know this is worse than the attack on Michigan State.
Again please refer to Eugene
Again please refer to Eugene Robinson's piece in the WashPost of 11-11-05, as he dissects the French's version of a "non-discriminatory"/ colorblind society. In any event, who's shocked? I think with the emergence of China and India, makes the moves made by these folks to limit our life chances only enhances the continue growth and increasing doimance of these two nations, while these fools here fall by the wayside due to their continuous effort in marginalizing our people and busy trying to make us disappear. And because an Hispanic in this instance is leading the charge, Al Gonzalez, makes it clear that (HOLLA! Vicente Fox, ) ethnicity or skin color does not lessen the extent of antiblack antipathy currently and this will be so increasingly in the future. Boy, we are in for some interesting times. I agree anonymous, this is
I agree anonymous, this is the beginning of a long battle against another anti-minority contingent with a minority face to validate their reactionary views for the (white) masses.
And it will be a hollow victory for the neo-cons. First, because the US will be highly marginallized in 20 years from an innovation and engineering POV. Secondly, because whites and males will not have a relative dominant place in the US.
Not only should whites take heed of domestic and national trends, but so should minorities. So what if minorities win a "place" in the US 20 years from now, if this country is a 2nd-world country. That is a hollow victory. I for one believe efforts like this should drive minorities not only to defeat the racists in this country, but to create relationships and leverage internationally, be it in an emerging Africa, Asia, or elsewhere.

La Shawn Barber's take. A
La Shawn Barber's take.
Race isn't about skin color.
Sadly, a government with the power to discriminate in favor of whites also has no power to discriminate against whites.
Remember that.
Race isn't about skin color. Skin color is just a proxy. And I can't even imagine taking Barber as a serious commentator.
How about this "a goverment
How about this "a goverment with the power to advantage whites can also advantage Blacks." And if my memory is correct, this government, in particular, is well versed at discriminating against Blacks in favor of whites, as it has well over 400 years of practice at it and its still evolving or modifing its craft. Obviously no one, resultingly, would advocate similar treatment for whites, I think. GDAWG

I suppose not. But I doubt you've rejected her due to lack skill in communicating her selected concept. I don't buy her religious priorities at all, but she explains them well.
If she stuck to her
If she stuck to her religious priorities we could talk.
La Shawn Barber?DW, La Shawn
La Shawn Barber?
DW, La Shawn Barber doesn't have a take. She's a just hand puppet for the Reichwing.
Damn. Now I need to open a window to let the stench out.
On another topic, in another
On another topic, in another forum someone quoted a person saying:
Anyone can quibble over the language ("punishment"??) but it is the essence of the Consequences of the Past and the attendant Responsibility that this CYNICAL MOVE (as Obama aptly calls it), the move to skirt both the responsibility and the consequences, that's at question.
When the word "discrimination" is used now with respect to Affirmative Action type of measures as if it means the same thing it meant/means with respect to Slavery/Jim Crow then you know America has not been redeemed and would rather circumvent it and the obligations it requires.
