Suppose we all did what Conservatives loudly demand of us. Suppose we all Support Out President. In fact, let's push it. Suppose we our Suport for Our President had never abated from its post-9/11 high point. We only discuss the bullet points we hit and never mention the, er, rough patches. All the secrets are kept, the complaints of the prisoners in Gitmo are never reported, Abu Ghraib passed totally beneath our collective radar.
We Support Our Troops. We Support Our President.
We pray for him every day.
Do you think the Iraq invasion would have been more successful? Really? The fact is, they've done exactly what they would have done anyway. That they've done so is actually a point of pride.
I chuckle a bit at the callers to Washington Journal. You still get a lot of "they complain, but they have no suggestions to make it better." So what? It's not like anyone was listening outside the circle of command. They're not listening outside that circle to anyone.
Take immigration . Whose voice do you think your Republican government is listening to? And by the way, you can expect those new worker visas to go to high tech workers, not the day laborers you're sweating.
And you strict constructionists and originalists...don't you feel Justice Scalia has sold you out? How can he claim to be supportive of the rule of law and decide a law with over 100 years of precident can be set aside? Even the Cato Institute has a problem with that.
It's not good to have a government that feels so free to disregard that its citizenry wants.
