Black Power's Quiet Side

Civil rights struggles are rightfully acknowledged as having earned black Americans a historic level of dignity. "Black Power" accomplished a no less remarkable task, fueling the casually assertive identity and cultural pride that is part of African-American life today. In this way, in spite of the hostilities between the two movements, there remains between them a shared history of struggle that briefly transcended political differences while ultimately transforming the landscape of race relations.
