Prometheus 6

All respect and no restraint

Some things are beyond my ability to comprehend

Glenn Greenwald tells you about the Republican/Conservative extremists' indictment of the NY Times Travel Section's heinous plot to get the Vice President assassinated.

I don't know what they're worried about. Anyone tries to get Cheney, he'll just shoot 'em in the face. We probably don't need Rummy either. We're staying the course until the job is done, right? So there's little need for further decision making outside the political, and that's Rove's job.

I have no quote because there's so much inanity from so many sources to draw from I just can't choose.

At one level the borderline

At one level the borderline lunatic ravings of these people makes me laugh but at another level, after reading their posts, I start thinking that I don't own nearly enough guns. I sincerely believe that these folks have no intentions of surrendering political power without trying to stage a coup or putsch in 2008 or 2009. They will engineer some phony national emergency and use that as a pretext to declare martial law.

If the Democrats regain control of the House in November and the prospects for the 40 year interregnum these folks had hoped for as a result of the Republican's narrow Congressional victories in 1994 appear to be fading, then you can expect to see increasingly strident and bizarre claims being made by political right-wingers. The nomination of Hillary Clinton as the Democratic Party's candidate and the likelihood of her being elected will push all of them into a state of frenzied anger and paranoia.

The continued misuse and abuse of the National Guard and their families by the Bush Administration, the growing numbers of injured and maimed miitary veterans coupled with the fantasies and lies being spun about the reasons for the debacle in Vietnam and the continuing debacle in Iraq gives me reason to suspect that we are right at the edge of the rabbit hole.
