WHY DO WE eliminate incentives from our public education system? We all agree that educating our children is important, but we fail to use the most proven performance-enhancement tool of the marketplace — cold, hard cash.

Incentives matter in life. How many of us would put forth our best if we never got a tangible reward? Instead of expecting our children to wait years for the payoff for a good education, we should deliver one sooner. Cash awards reinforce the link between learning now and earning more later.

It is all about the acquisitions, after all.

Just because its a common fallacy doesn't mean it's true.

Me.  I put forth my best without a tangible reward.  Nor am I am unsual.

Children are actually extremely effective at gaming the system.  If you train them with respect and affection, they will use their astonishing intelligence to anticipate what you need them to accomplish.  If you try to bribe them, they will "work to rule."  Not only have my wife and I noticed this in our observations of children and discussions with parents, I REMEMBER being a child.

Look at how much work goes into maintaining and updating blogs.  I bet the total tangible incentives paid out to bloggers worldwide is less than the cash-denominated gross urban product of Zinder, Niger.

Yeah, the 'tangible' part was problematic. "Reward" is key, though...often the reward is just not losing.

It's just soooooo typical though. I can't think of another country whee ideas like turning your ballots into Lotto tickets would even arise.
