Iran Willing to Negotiate on Nuclear Program

RealAudio | MP3: Iran's top nuclear negotiator reportedly said Tuesday the country is willing to enter "serious negotiations" over its nuclear program but he did not indicate whether Tehran would agree to Western demands to suspend uranium enrichment activities.

Iran has until Aug. 31 to end its nuclear program or face the threat of economic and political sanctions, according to a U.N. resolution.

Aaron Friedberg, a professor of politics and international affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University, and a former deputy assistant for national security affairs and director of policy planning for Vice President Cheney; and Trita Parsi, who was born in Iran, raised in Sweden and served in the Swedish mission to the United Nations, assess the Iranian response and how it may affect the diplomatic standoff.
