As a prelude to next week’s discussion of The Trouble With Diversity, I’m providing some links to recent articles by and about Walter Benn Michaels and the conversaions they elicited. I’ll follow those with links to scholarly articles about the two books from which The Trouble With Diversity, Our America: Nativism, Modernism and Pluralism and The Shape of the Signifier: 1967 to the End of History. draws its arguments.

I'll be checking some of the background links in this little prelude too. Those that would champion Black folks in the agora would do well to be up on conversations like this...I can say this confidently without having yet read a word. You need to be familiar with mainstream arguments about your fate, positive and negative. You need to be clear what must be responded to, what can be ignored and what can be appropriated.
