I've said, oh, maybe 50-60 times that Black folks and white folks have entirely different race issues; that Black folks don't want to experience racism while white folks don't want to be responsible for racism.
My theory has been tested.
People from perpetrator and target groups appear to face divergent motivational pressures when making judgments about the role of racism in everyday events. People from perpetrator groups appear motivated to minimize perceptions of racism in everyday events. In contrast, the balance of motivations that influence people from target groups is more ambiguous. On one hand, they may experience motivations to minimize perceptions of racism in service of self-presentation, self-protection, or the need to experience the social order as just and legitimate. On the other hand, they may experience motivations to perceive racism in the service of vigilance, deflecting blame for ingroup disadvantage, or worldview defense.
The title of the paper is The effect of self-affirmation on perception of racism (PDF). It opens with a discussion between the disparate perceptions of Black and white folks, but actually test Latino and white folks. Interesting choice.
And the conclusion...it seems self-affirmations make minorities less likely to notice white racism, apparently because they are more secure. And they make white folks MORE likely to notice white racism, also due to feeling more secure.

You people are unf---ing unbelievable! All you do is squalk about whites being racist against blacks. The real truth is blacks are the most racist people on the planet! First, if I or any white created a blog simply to spurt accusations against blacks and a forum to squalk about wrongs blacks have done against whites, blacks, the liberal press, democrats and liberals everywhere would be attacking the site calling it all kinds of terrible names and trying to shut it down.
Secondly, none of you in this forum can prove that slavery in this country has in any way negatively impacted your life. Most of you who are claiming to be african-americans cannot even prove any connection to africa. Africans are very black in color and have specific traits that many "blacks" in this country do not posses! Most "blacks" in this country are lighter than africans and have traits of other countries, islands etc. which may or may not have roots to africa. Do you think all blacks came from ONLY AFRICA?
The real problem is that africans are a despite race which is proven by the fact they have no written history. The greater races all have recorded history. In fact, people, if the white man had not recorded life and times of the 19th century, blacks would not ever know slavery in this country ever existed! Hell, most of them don't know who their grandmother or granfather were as it is today, even with all the records the white man has produced.
Thirdly, before "blacks" rag on any problem with whites, they must first learn the language used in this country and stop squalking inequality. Damnit, they have been in this country for 400 years and have not yet learned the language. An asian can come here not speaking the language and within a short time will have not only mastered the language, but without gov't. intervention or assistance, WILL go to school, get excellent grades and go on to college and become a lawyer, doctor or other respected contributor to american society! Many asians have slavery in their history but you never hear them squalking about it!! They are too busy taking advantage of the white mans world concetrating on the present.
I'm leaving for now but will return later as I know many of you cannot wait to take a shot at me. My pre-comment to the coming name calling that will surely come is:"The truth sometimes hurts but my reason for saying the truth is in the hope it will open some eyes, rather than to be hurtful."

My new theory suggests that the preference for distortion or clarity is reflected in the cultural proclivities of certain collectives for specific musical instruments: electric guitar (distortion) vs. bass drum (clarity)...not serious here.

I confess I wasn't always this...immune. There is definitely a learning curve. goodolboy's bullshit is powerless, but until that is thoroughly known each such encounter feels like the slap in the face it's intended to be. Literally. Your body will have pretty much the same physical response.
I deal with the behavior rather than the supposed content of the statement. The most I do with the content is use it as a gauge of the intensity of his bigotry.
