Ward Connerly teams up with the Klan to pass the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative

Think I'm joking?

KKK backing welcomed
Prop 2 leader says he'll take support wherever he can get it to end affirmative action.

Ward Connerly, the California man leading a ballot measure to end most affirmative action in Michigan, accepts Ku Klux Klan support for his position in a video clip posted this week on the Internet.

Connerly on Friday defended his remark in a statement, saying he accepts support for banning affirmative action wherever he finds it.

He said he does not support hateful activities.

But opponents of Connerly's Proposal 2 immediately seized on the clip as a sign that it would satisfy hate groups, not ensure equality.

In the 39-second clip posted on YouTube.com, Mark Bernstein of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission says Connerly's group has no support from notable civil rights groups.

"In fact just to illustrate how extreme and radical this group is," Bernstein says, "the only large organization that's endorsed the MCRI is the Ku Klux Klan."

Then the clip cuts to Connerly.

"If the Ku Klux Klan thinks that equality is right, God bless them," Connerly says. "Thank them for finally reaching the point where logic and reason are being applied, instead of hate."

out of the closet

Well, I'm glad that people like Connerly and Shelby Steele are coming out into the open with all this stuff - makes them not so effective at providing cover for white racists when their own racism against people of color is so clearly evident.

 Well, and their insanity too...

So are you saying that if

So are you saying that if the KKK has reached a point that they believe equality is right and they are applying logic and reason instead of hate, it's a bad thing?

Your headline is a bit misleading too, although that's standard fare for the opposition's campaign. The KKK supports Proposal 2; Connerly doesn't support the Klan.

Has the Klan rejected white supremacy? I doubt it. I'm sure they support it because it stops giving preferences to minorities. The Klan, like opponents of Proposal 2, have always supported racial preferences. Just different races.

The Klan's support for Proposal 2 is no different than the extremists on the other side who believe white men should pay for slavery and past discrimination and support preferences as one way to extract their reparations.

Vote YES on Proposal 2.

So are you saying that if

So are you saying that if the KKK has reached a point that they believe equality is right and they are applying logic and reason instead of hate, it's a bad thing?

I'm saying the KKK has NOT reached that point, and their support of this bill is in keeping with their general outlook and plan.

Let's not worry about hypotheticals.

The KKK supports Proposal 2; Connerly doesn't support the Klan.

My headline is spot-on accurate. I didn't say he supports the Klan, I said he teamed up with it. Connerly did not have to accept the endorsement. The votes would have been enough. His acceptance of an endorsement by the KKK is nothing more or less than pandering to the racists in the crowd.

The KKK says we like it, Connerly welcomes the support. That's an alliance.

The Klan's support for Proposal 2 is no different than the extremists on the other side who believe white men should pay for slavery and past discrimination and support preferences as one way to extract their reparations.

Oh, well I'm safe. I want the federal and state governments to undo the effect of willful damage inflicted on Black folks. Just as I don't have to have a problem with the shareholders to sue a company, I'm not interested in anything from white people.

Vote YES on Proposal 2.

No.
