I need to get this out of the way. First, two reactions to Kramer's self-immolation, on sane, one not so much.

Next, here's the boy on Letterman.

I want you to notice some things. Seinfeld tells the audience to stop laughing because it's not funny...but that wasn't a ha-ha-funny laugh. It was what's known in the trade as a "nervous titter." It's related to the laughter you heard during the premiere of The Exorcist, which laughter harmonized so well with the tinkling sound of pee striking the floor when one wets oneself.

I want you to note the standard protestation: "I'm not a racist." If not, what does 'racism' mean?

I want you to note the standard defense: "It's not all my fault." And how many champions of personal responsibility will leap to his defense?

I want you to note the standard deflection: "I know him, but not that well." Okay, but are you really surprised by the class of behavior?

I want you to note the standard plea: "He deserves another chance." If so, the what is EVER over the line?

That last one needs answering.

I understand what's going on here. Seinfeld the syndicated television show, has had the potential to be as long-lived a cash cow as I Love Lucy. Now, just before Christmas, Kramer has shot the cow in the cheat; if he missed the heart he at least collapsed its lung. No Black person will be buying anything with his face in it, going forward into perpetuity.

I don't want to hear an apology from Michael Richards. I want to see somebody get their ass beat.

But the person who should get their ass beat shouldn't be Michael Richards. I'm not sure who should though. But I tell you what. When Russell Simmons makes a rule to ban the word 'nigger' from all comedy routines that go on Def Comedy Jam, then maybe I won't want to see anybody get their ass beat.. nah yes I will.

Almost none. If Kramer's rant makes you mad at Russell Simmons, you may be giving out Season Seven Stocking Stuffers.

But I digress.

I hope the Seinfeld franchise takes a massive financial hit over this. I hope it crashes and burns until the only place you can find Seinfeld is in the 99¢ store. Because in the USofA, whatever breast-baring or breast-beating takes place, profit = good. EVERYTHING falls in line behind profit.

Right?

Maybe not. OJ and Fox were over the line of decency. And this wasn't murder...but do you have to actually kill someone to be over the line?
