Happy Birthday

I'll be at that point in a little over a year, but I've started saying "I'm just about 50" now, so it's not so startling when it actually happens. It just seems so improbable. 

 Happy birthday, a bit early. 

P6...  You would have been six years old when Kennedy was assassinated and 11 years old when King was assassinated.  What are your memories of these events? 

Kennedy- I came home from school, turned on the TV for the standard cartoon thing and saw all these grim faces. I asked someone, don't remember who, why my cartoons weren't on and was told the President had been killed. I asked, "You mean the President put the cartoons on?"

Hey, how much of a damn can a six year old really give about it?

Dr. King's assassination- Lotta anger, lotta fear...both of what white folks were doing and what Black folks would do in return. Rumors thick enough that a kid would notice. I remember watching out the window all night waiting for the riot.
