I had to get particular about saving clips. Tavis is selling DVDs of each session. But check the audience reaction and tell me: leader or representative?

Representative. And a damn
Representative. And a damn good one at that!
Oh man, I love this woman.
Oh man, I love this woman. I'd never heard of her before, but she is great. Reminds me a lot of my former sister in law. And definitely representative.Â
Thanks for these clips - I don't have cable but I'm going to try and catch the whole event (if it's available) on c-span.Â
Because I am ancient,
Because I am ancient, ancient of days, I remember the sister from an old mailing list.
Her joint is The Black Think Tank. She's been at it for a while.
You would think
You would think that as effectively as she bloviates about empowering everyone to be a black leader, she might make her website interactive. I'm turned off completely by her soundbites and her citations of ancient African geometry.Â
Fortunately, you're not in
Fortunately, you're not in her target audience.
P6 I actually agree with
P6 I actually agree with you. But I did not want to seem elitist. I think her dispensation of the 'analysis' of this society's institutional pathologies, that afflicts our folks disproportionately, was clear / logical as stated in the example she used. It was a kind of analysis that often spewed in academic conferences in unintelligiable public consumptional babble, that then, does not make it to the street for the folks to understand that the '10th' folks see their view of things, and, now, are representing. As it stands now it seems to me that there is this perpetual disconnect that academics 'get it' later rather than sooner. But, at least, rhetorically, grasp the text of discontent and explain it, so that other folks than Dyson are not the only such public entities to speak of our consternations and grievances. And that's where Brother Gordon's message works itself into the solution grid.
But I did not want to seem
"Elitist" means the best should be in charge. Fine in theory, like most theories are. If in working it out one makes it so that only the best get anything at all, you're not an elitist you're an asshole. For real.
Funny. But true.
Funny. But true.

Julia Hare's husband is Dr. Nathan Hare. Dr. Hare's appointment as the head of the Black Studies Program at San Francisco State, now the California State University at San Francisco, which was reversed by the school's administration was a major factor in the now famous student strike at that university.
There is a memorable photograph at this website of Nathan Hare, Huey P. Newton, James Baldwin and Jule Anderson. Jule, who later became a member of the San Francisco Board of Education, now lives in Atlanta. She is misidentified in the caption as "Julie".
I've respected her for a long time
Dr. Hare always makes you think, and is always on point. I really enjoy her. My mother was like, ' Who is this woman?'. Dr. Hare said everything my mother's been saying - about the kids that is. When she went into "Black Leaders" vs. "Leading Blacks", I just had to rewind that over and over.
