I think that if I was a parent, relative or family friend of one of those young women on the Rutgers' team that I would be waiting for Don Imus and his producer when they left the studio.

Check out the biographies of the members of Rutger's women's basketball team. See if you can find any evidence or signs that these young women are "nappy headed hos". 

These kinds of comments are pretty routine for Imus.  I wonder why there has not been a public reaction earlier.  His on air personality, Bernard, is particularly offensive.   

So now those of you who didn't already know it, can finally rest assured that Imus is a racist asshole who I would not spit on if he was on fire.  Acknowledging him in any way is an exercise in futility.

I don't listen to Imus but if calling 18 and 19 year old kids "nappy headed hos" is a routine part of his shtick then he needs to change up quick. I really don't care if they were white girls and he called them "stringy haired po' white skanks". All of them are somebody's children. The girls at Rutgers played their hearts out and came up short. They deserve a little bit more consideration for their troubles. 

These are young people who don't deserve to be called out this way for any reason whatsoever. They deserve to be the focus of positive attention and respect, not denigrated on the national airwaves because they don't conform to his opinion of how girls or young women should look.

"I accept his apology, just as I want his bosses to accept his resignation," said the Rev. Al Sharpton. He promised to picket Imus' New York radio home, WFAN-AM, unless the veteran of nearly 40 years of anything-goes broadcasting is gone within a week.

Imus is popular precisely because he says all the stuff that your co-workers want to say but won't for fear of getting a black boot stomp to the grill.  It's time for him to take his millions and get to stepping.

I watched Imus for a couple of weeks when I was living at home.  The only black person I saw him interview or have any high regard for was Harold Ford.  He would occasionally hide behind "I'm a good white liberal at heart" baloney when he would talk about how when growing up he preferred black rock and roll artists to white ones.  Like I said before, I am surprised that a flare-up of this kind did not appear earlier since racist jokes are pretty common among Imus and his on-air cohorts.  His on-air partner, Bernard, would often do impersonations of Ray Nagin in a Step-in-Fetchit mode, among other racist impersonations of black folk.  I also recently read that Imus once referred to Gwen Ifill as a "cleaning woman."  Almost every broadcast I saw of his was predicated with racist humor.                         

Karl Jung was of the opinion that white Americans were obsessed with Negroes. He told colleagues and friends that many of his patients talked about Negroes in their sessions with him and that many of them reported having recurrent dreams about Negroes.

Given Imus' and his on-air colleagues frequent comments about African Americans it is apparent that they too are obsessed, in much the same way Jung described three generations earlier, with African Americans too.

It is clear that many of these people including Don Imus, Bernard and many of his fans are in need of therapeutic intervention. The need to belittle and castigate African Americans is symptomatic of some deep seated problem. I think their behavior and attitudes further confirms P6's view that racism is a sign of mental illness.
