Prometheus 6

All respect and no restraint

That wasn't smart

I think y'all oughta listen to the brother . Especially since y'all's rationalizations had nothing to do with what went on in his head.

Imus, Barbara Ehrenreich, Becky, Michael-Anne.

Let me put it this way.

I don't give a sh** how you think you can define the word "Ho".

Anytime you apply the term to my daughter, a black girl, a much-too-soon-to-be black woman, you're going to catch a beat down.

From me.

Literally.

Now, go out there and define "beat down".

As they say,' Who you telling?'

My father's bark was worse than his bite. With one exception. When it came to my mother or his daughters. Mess with any of them, and my gentle father would try and physically beat the living $*%$ out of you.

HE.DID.NOT.PLAY.THAT.

Deep Denial

My grandfathers, uncles and father would have fired up anybody who called their wives, daughters or nieces "nappy headed ho's". No argument with any of my sisters, female cousins or even girls that I grew up with in the neighborhood would have ever justified me referring to them in such a derogatory fashion no matter what they might have said about me. Decent people don't go there. For any reason. At all. Ever.

Barbara Ehrenreich et al. have taken leave of their senses. Somebody needs to find them new brains.

You cannot call black women "nappy headed ho's" with a smile on your face and expect to get a free pass. Won't happen.

Living Language

And when you are beamed in the future and then learn tha "ho" now means "devoted wife" you will feel a little silly.

~Becky

correction

Sorry--that future meaning should have been "devoted daughter"

~Becky

You know what, Becky? That

You know what, Becky? That is the single stupidest comment on this imbroglio I have yet heard.

If you need to be "beamed into the future" for your comment to make sense, youreally shouls just sit quietly until the discussion is over.

My father's bark was worse

My father's bark was worse than his bite. With one exception. When it came to my mother or his daughters.

I have an adult daughter. You don't want to mess with her. There's shit she won't tell me because he knows how I am.

And when you are beamed in

And when you are beamed in the future and then learn tha "ho" now means "devoted wife" you will feel a little silly.

This won't happen even if one of your progeny marries an Imus offspring and the two of them secure the rights to the OED. Wink

Her feelings got hurt

"Sorry--that future meaning should have been 'devoted daughter'"

Oh no. Tell me that woman did not go there?

Oh well, which just proves it. You can't keep calling a woman a Ho as I did call her without hurting her. Even a white one. Ergo, when it comes to our black girls, she's just a plain ol' racist.

Lesson learned: Black women got more in common with Black men than with white women. So let's deal with whatever problems we might have without their interference.

Cool Sistahs?

Black women and black men

Black women got more in common with black men than with white women.

Now that's a challenging statement. And in political and cultural terms, a true one I think. Failure to recognize that reality leads to a lot of self-destructive infighting, as the numbers of black women turning on black men in the midst of this circus illustrates. That goes back to my original point about "post-constructionist" feminism
