Prometheus 6

All respect and no restraint

That ought to settle the whole discussion

The weighty question is, was Paris mollycoddled because she's a celebrity or penalized for being rich and famous? The sheriff says a typical non-violent offender serves less than 10 percent of his or her sentence, and house arrest and phone-in court dates are the norm. Good points. But the judge didn't throw the book at Paris Hilton because she's Paris Hilton; he did it because she'd been caught violating probation -- twice -- and she didn't seem to be getting the message. So the sheriff is right, but the judge is righter. This is sooooooooooooo much easier to solve than immigration reform. And on a Saturday morning, which would you rather read about?

We thought so.

I thought there was an element of human sacrifice when Martha Steward was convicted. This, like the victim, is a no-brainer. And though the sheriff likely had no special ills in mind when he went the house arrest route, you have to ask yourself what kind of community is it in which the typical non-violent offender serves less than 10 percent of his sentence, in which you can go home from jail because you feel sick. It is not any community of color...I don't even think our model minorities could get away with that.
