BRAVO!!!!
You came through loud and clear. Coonservatives had you outnumbered two-to-one yet you served up the lions share of substantive commentary. Honesty doctrine indeed...,
Great to hear you p6. You
Great to hear you p6. You may start me listening to this show again; I had began to think of it as BET News and Notes, lately, after they dropped the old roundtable segment, and have been covering more pop issues.
I agree with cnulan, you brought the most substantive commentary to those minutes. I could sense a twinge of nervousness in your voice, but once you get your "radio legs", I'm sure that'll pass.
I think you did great, but fear that some of your references may have been lost on the ADD afflicted.
I'm told if it becomes a
I'm told if it becomes a regular segment as planned, they'll be rotating through commentators.
Touch of nerves, yeah. I just got the topics this morning and when I saw the Fairness Doctrine was up, I knew I had to speak to the real issue but I also knew it would catch them by surprise. I'm just hoping a little thought is preferable to stenography.
I told them not to put La
I told them not to put La Shawn Barber down when they called. Gave them the name of another conservative, maybe even two. I hate it when that happens.
shrug She was as on-script
shrug
She was as on-script as Casey. As long as they're only doing talking points there's no gain or loss no matter who says it. But they might use your conservatives over the next few weeks. They're juggling availability.
Hey, this is new to me so I ask a lot of questions.
there's a larger political
there's a larger political issue. you figure the white ideological spectrum veers from liberal to extreme conservative. you cut the middle of that and you're somewhere around joe lieberman maybe. i don't know. and your conservative can be pat buchanan and perhaps farther to the right.
among black people? where would that conservative be? i'd say somewhere around cobb. anywhere further and you're approaching fruitcake territory. PLUS the fact that in this case that person is likely to be anti-black.
for both reasons i didn't think barber would be there. doesn't matter what she says on any given occasion. her presence communicates an untruth about black political diversity.
The truth about Black
The truth about Black political diversity has yet to be established. Ultimately though, yeah, you want the serious thinkers out there.
The producer emailed me,
The producer emailed me, said I done good and next time I'll be in the studio instead of on the phone.
Now, don't let me see you in
Now, don't let me see you in a year, transformed into another LaShawn, mr. p6.

Please. You dance with the one what brung ya.
Congrats!!.... Hope this
Congrats!!.... Hope this builds on what you have accomplished with your blog. Would be interested to hear your insights on what it is like to expand to regular radio commentary and other media outlets. Keep us updated/informed on future engagements.
We shall see. I can't help
We shall see. I can't help but think that the last time a thinking Black man was presented to the media, it was Malcolm X...and I think a bunch of folk conside that to have been a mistake that is not to be repeated.
On the other hand, I don't think I quite have his impact. And a couple of folks recommended me to NPR based on what I'm doing.
that's funny....because
that's funny....because last time i checked i was black, and had been presented to the media. but i digress.
the truth about black political diversity in the aggregate is known. as well as it can be. look at voting patterns, at public opinion data. at public policy preferences.
she's outside of the bounds. there is no doubt.
that's funny....because
And I rattle on. I think my respect for your work is known; however I will watch my mouth.
I flip out turns of phrases all the time; don't hesitate to let me know if any others come out that stupid.
No argument. I'm just saying, they needed three bloggers and she was available. I don't think I'm in a position to chase her off the show.
no sweat. congratulations by
no sweat. congratulations by the way. i knew this bit would be better than the traditional roundtable they'd had before.
Well Done!
I'm glad that you were able to avoid being made the liberal punching bag and tried to elevate the discussion to some place other than the usual left vs. right dynamic that the media enjoys packaging and presenting the news and commentary in. (BTW, Johnny Sutton is the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas.) Your call for an "honesty doctrine" was a sharp and incisive stroke!
Thanks, PT. (BTW, Johnny
Thanks, PT.
I said Western Texas, didn't I? I'm not going back to find out...
You Said That Sutton...
...was the attorney general for the district of Western Texas.
