Mr. Godinez was apprehended at 1 a.m., in Oxon Hill, Md., about nine miles from Washington, according to James T. Plousis, the United States marshal for New Jersey. The authorities found Mr. Godinez, along with eight other people, in a rundown apartment near the Capital Beltway. Mr. Godinez’s arrest took place without incident, Mr. Plousis said.

An hour later and 20 miles away, in Woodbridge, Va., a 16-year-old was arrested. There was one other person in the apartment at the time, Mr. Plousis said.

Two More Arrested in Newark Killings
By KAREEM FAHIM

After an intense manhunt spanning several states, a 24-year-old man and his teenage half brother were arrested yesterday in the Aug. 4 killings of three friends in Newark, said Garry F. McCarthy, Newark’s police director.

“We got a bunch of really hot tips in the last few days,” he said, adding that the information led a task force headed by United States marshals to the two, Rodolfo Godinez, 24, and his half brother, a 16-year-old, in apartments in Maryland and Virginia.

With the arrests, five people are now being held in connection with the killings, including Jose Lachira Carranza, 28, and two 15-year-old boys. Another teenage boy is still being sought, the authorities said. None of the teenagers’ names have been publicly released.

The three victims, Dashon Harvey, 20, Iofemi Hightower, 20, and Terrance Aeriel, 18, were shot dead at close range in a school playground. Mr. Aeriel’s sister, Natasha, also was shot but survived. The authorities have said that robbery was the motive.

Apart from the tips, the authorities tracked cellphones used by the two, even after they switched phones, officials said. In recent days, the Federal Bureau of Investigation received a tip from an informer, which Mr. McCarthy called a key to the arrests. Mr. McCarthy also credited the marshals. “They specialize in the hunt,” he said.

Mr. Godinez is being held at the Prince George’s County Jail, and his brother is being held at a juvenile detention facility in Prince William County.

Both suspects have extradition hearings tomorrow, Mr. Plousis said.

Good. Give them all the injection

Period.

Terminating with Extreme Prejudice: The Injection

Don't you think we need to find out what their degree of culpability is before we begin asking that all of them be put to death? I don't doubt that all of them were involved to some extent in committing this horrible crime but we need to find out exactly what each of them did or did not do. Fleeing the scene of a crime and not wanting to give up folks to the cops doesn't warrant the death penalty. Aiding and assisting in the commission of the crime, regardless of whether you popped a cap on someone or not, may earn you a cell on Death Row but simply being there and running scared should not.
