In Book, Bush Peeks Ahead to His Legacy
By JIM RUTENBERG

WASHINGTON, Aug. 31 — When President Bush is asked what he plans to do when he leaves office, he often replies curtly: “I don’t have that much time to think beyond my presidency” or “I’m going to sprint to the finish.”

But in an interview with a book author in the Oval Office one day last December, he daydreamed about the next phase of his life, when his time will be his own.

First, Mr. Bush said, “I’ll give some speeches, just to replenish the ol’ coffers.” With assets that have been estimated as high as nearly $21 million, Mr. Bush added, “I don’t know what my dad gets — it’s more than 50-75” thousand dollars a speech, and “Clinton’s making a lot of money.”

How much demand can there

How much demand can there possibly be for this dunderhead? People hire Clinton and Bush because they can string a few words together in an engaging and entertaining way. Only the true-believers will give Bush any time of day.

I could see him becoming a

I could see him becoming a televangelist.

That's terrible! :)

That's terrible! :)

Seriously. He'd rake it in

Seriously. He'd rake it in hand over fist...make Clinton look like a piker.

I think he is going to

I think he is going to attempt to extend the Bush dynasty by working behind the scenes to get Jeb into office or set a course for some younger member of the family to one day become president. I hear Jeb's son, George Prescott Bush, is being groomed to be a successor. Maybe he will work to help launch a political career for his future son-in-law who at the present moment is engaged to his daughter Jena. It is hard to imagine somebody so dumb being an "elder statesman." I sure hope his successor isn't stupid enough to confide in him as presidents are apt to do with their predecessors. I also think he will be playing a lot of golf with his father and his new-found "friend" Bill Clinton.

Won't go away, folks

He won't go away and his corporate handlers will keep him busy. Remember when people said (especially some white folk though not exclusively), "I don't see any difference between him and Gore" during the first stolen election run-up? Well, the same media folk that unleased that "Vulcan mind meld" on you will do their best (and succeed) in making him into some kind of "humanitarian" as he works to bring "democracy" (read: corporatization and savage capitalism) to the world.

The proposed presidential library at SMU, with $500 MILLION already raised by his corporate handlers, is supposed to have a "conservative think tank attached to it with scholars who will turn out papers, books, op-ed pieces, etc LAUDING" his 2 stolen terms.

It's also very interesting that in moments when he lets his "guard down" that his true nature always seeps out (“I’ll give some speeches, just to replenish the ol’ coffers”).

And BTW, since ubstu34 mentioned his nephew, have you noticed that you haven't heard anything lately from Jeb's son, George Prescott Bush? He was paraded around until the bombs started falling and flag-draped coffins started arriving in the USA while his uncle talked about Americans having to make "sacrifices". He had to be hidden from view because people would ask why old George P. Bush isn't making the sacrifice of attacking innocent civilians in Iraq. He'll be back when the "time is right" with uncle by his side.
