Prometheus 6

All respect and no restraint

The "Since y'all don't want to comment on stuff I post" open thread

I'm going to get this book , and some comics.

A question from left field

As a black male from humble beginnings who rose to become a bank vice-president, why don't you identify more closely with conservative ideology and embrace a Horatio Alger understanding of American life? Doesn't your own life prove that hard work and discipline can take one anywhere? Where do your politics come from and how do they fit into the mind set of some one who has mastered the art of pragmatic accomplishment. I know this is coming from left field but would like to hear your comments.

It's Not That I Don't Want to Comment...

P6:

I read 85% of the stuff you post. And, I wanted to hit you with a few paragraphs after I read couple of your posts during the last few weeks. However, I started law school three weeks ago, and I've been kinda bogged down. Stuff like promissory estoppel, conversion, "necessary and proper," and jurisdiction is eating more of my time than I thought it would. And the time I might have spent commenting over here at P6, is being used up for writing predictive legal memos and case briefs. I figure I'll have things sufficiently figured out in another month or so, and then I might start leaving a few more things in your comments threads.

Did you see the article about all the Jersey officials

that have been arrested today?

Did you see that Giulani has sworn a blood oath

to the Federalist Society?

Assistant VP. You had to swear fealty to someone to get past that.

Where do your politics come from and how do they fit into the mind set of some one who has mastered the art of pragmatic accomplishment.

That's a strange question because there's a ton of accomplished Black folk out there and the vast majority of them share my politics. They just don't pursue them the same way I do.

I had eclectic interests that shaped the way I see things, ranging from sleight of hand magic to Tibetan Mahamudra Yoga to boolean algebras. And I have no innate social skills, so I made a pretty intense study of humans in general. All my politics are just a guy like that reacting to what happens.

pretty snarky book review there...

The writer wrote: “It is time,” Mr. Mearsheimer and Mr. Walt write, “for the United States to treat Israel not as a special case but as a normal state, and to deal with it much as it deals with any other country.” But it’s not. And America won’t. That’s realism.

Yeah, and that's how I expect the Grey Lady to handle such a book...

rikyrah, I wouldn't be

rikyrah, I wouldn't be surprised at an article proving Giuliani drinks blood.  And yeah, I saw the Jersey thing, but you know what? It's New Jersey. They still got a lot of crap to shake out.

Pdub, did you check the

Pdub, did you check the auxilliary links? They link the article the book expands on, so you can actually get the whole argument the book presents.

I'm taking a look

I'm taking a look at the links now, P6, but I have to say that I tend to agree with the point of view that the book takes, just based on reading the review.  I'm just not surprised that William Grimes (and his editor) seemed to disagree with that POV.

Obama's folks

I don't know how many of y'all saw this, but the Sunday edition of the Chicago Sun Times had a 5 page layout tracing and howing Obama's family tree.  You can see the link for yourself.  Draw your own conclusions:

I saw that. You know, after

I saw that.

You know, after the absurdity of it all passes, I found some pretty funny stuff in there.

"I found I'm related to 18 presidents," said Christopher Challender Child, a genealogist with the New England Historic Genealogical Society who has researched Obama's ancestry. "With presidents with New England ancestry, you will find a lot of them are related to one another."

Bush and his father, for instance, are distantly related to 16 other presidents. And Franklin Delano Roosevelt shared ancestors with 17 others.

It's like there's this eugenics program, and Bush is the best they came up with.
