Fire & Ink, Incorporated proudly announces the publication of Carry the Word: A Bibliography of Black LGBTQ Books. Co-published by Vintage Entity Press and RedBone Press, Carry the Word is a seminal reference work comprised of more than 600 titles by and about black Same-Gender-Loving (SGL) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer-identified (LGBTQ) writers and culture. All proceeds from sales of Carry the Word will benefit Fire & Ink, supporter and advocate for SGL writers of African descent.

Edited by Steven G. Fullwood and Lisa C. Moore, with an introduction by Reginald Harris (author 10 Tongues, Three Conditions Press), Carry the Word also features interviews and reviews of established and emerging black gay and lesbian authors, including Sharon Bridgforth, Samiya Bashir, Doug Cooper-Spencer, Rashid Darden, June Jordan, Samuel Delany, Alexis De Veaux and Thomas Glave.

“It is the hope of Fire & Ink,” writes Reginald Harris in the introduction, “that libraries and bookstores will use [Carry the Word] to assist in expanding their collections; that scholars will use it as an aid to their research and curriculum development; and that readers will use it to discover books they may have missed and discover new authors to explore.”

Steven G. Fullwood, co-editor and compiler of Carry the Word, is an archivist at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York City. He founded the Black Gay and Lesbian Archive (BGLA) to aid in the preservation of black lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, same-gender-loving, queer, questioning and in the life history and culture. Fullwood is also publisher of Vintage Entity Press, a New York-based house featuring innovative work by an assortment of poets, fiction writers, academics and essayists. (http://vepress.com/)

Reginald Harris, compiler of Carry the Word, is help desk and staff training manager for the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore.
