Hesiod is ranting about a Republican Team Leader-type scam
Turns out, it's true. And someone is sending the exact same letter to different newspapers across the country...only each letter is "signed" by a different soldier living in that paper's area of circulation. A blatant propaganda ploy. To see for yourself, do the following:
1) Do a google search for the phrase: "I have been serving in Iraq for over five months now"
I've checked. He's right.

A local paper, The Olympian, received two copies and published a story about it. I blogged it to The Clipboard. Google search is currently turning up 25 hits.
Despicable Scam
Trackback from Dean's World:
Hesiod has updated his post. Turns out it wasn't as nefarious as he thought -- they were real signatures on some, and some claim that they didn't sign it, although none of the ones asked wrote it. They said that they agreed with the letter.
True, and I noted that at Dean's place. We also note the letters were sent to newspapers, several times without the knowledge of the soldiers. It's been downgraded from disgusting to stupid, ineffective propaganda.
