All respect and no restraint

The "off topic" Open Thread

We need this, it seems. And no it's not on the front page and therefore not in the syndication feed.

Well that's the double edged

Well that's the double edged sword of Affirmative Action. There really is no way around it because it was never means tested, and always race-based.

This issue is a might bit

This issue is a might bit more than affirmative action. Every day black folks (Drylongso) did not accumulate or, more accurately, earn political capital with the intent of using it for affirmative action or to support school integration over and above promoting neighborhood schools. Ordinary black folks and their children got sliced up every time the sword moved in either direction.

i keep looking for a logical thread

in what cobb wrote, and i can't.

The question is whether or not we are willing to call failure what it is. A failure to find a loving marriage is a failure, period. The failure for a sizeable percentage of people to find such is a tragedy...It is a failure of values, a failure of nerve and an abandonment of principle to defend the thug, excuse the unwed parents and coddle the ignorant. If there is an endemic and intrinsic 'black' problem, it is the extent to which something is making the inversion possible. To call such people 'beautiful black people' and to act as if they were not agents of their own degeneracy is a mental health problem. To deny the fact that black culture has morphed into a support structure for this 'alternative lifestyle' is just perverse. To act as if nobody in American society is going to notice is doubly strange.

dude.   this is some bullshit.  if you don't like poor black people, move on.  what you write is no different from what a racist/liberal/conservative would write about my community...and i don't f*cks with them either.  i thought this was to be a space about what COULD be done, not a continual culling of those deemed undesirable because they don't necessarily have the same affordances or motivations that you had.

this ain't about affirmative action; this ain't even about Cosby.  the above reads as if you have a beef with the semantic conflation of THOSE people and you.  as much as i respect your desire not to be muddled in with people who don't share your SES or social space, i can't afford to adopt your attitude.  it rubs my spirit raw.

There is no logical

There is no logical thread.

I saw how Cobb challenged Field to prove the Southern Strategy exists, as though we're supposed to ignore documented history to have an ego battle of some sort.

Ask a question, and he ignores it to lauch some other extended screed. Correct him and he says, "What I'm saying is" and launches into an unconnected screed.

I've decided his purpose is to troll for attention as "Black Republicanism" collapses, and to disrupt other discussions that show how far from reality it is. So into moderation mode he goes.

The pity is that Cobb thinks

The pity is that Cobb thinks that he and the class he wants to represent are immune from the symptoms we were trying to describe and understand. A Lexus and an Armani suit will not protect you from the angst of existence.

I know you got a birthday

I know you got a birthday coming up.  Happy Birthday.

Now that you let it out of the bag...

Thanks.
