MLK on my mind...
Since MLK has been the subject of conversation to some degree in this 2008 presidential campaign and since his "dream" has been invoked -- and I would say, in a very problematic manner (by Campaign Hillary) -- I just want to make a couple of connections to put focus squarely on the irony and hypocrisy of the type-casting that goes on:
All White people know and, more importantly, want to know about MLK is the Kumbaya King captured in bits and pieces of his famous, "I Have A Dream" speech. I won't do a Temple3 and suggest that we (they) should look at other speeches and statements of his. Don't need to. All I need to do is point to something we hear all the time during election season:
"...I want to them to talk about the issues."
That's what the public demands of presidential candidates and it's something that's been emphasized, rightly or wrongly, about Sen. Barack Obama's campaign. The silliness (it's silly because we hear these same complaints every election season) even surfaced - as Player Hating always does - when Obama's inspiring victory speech in Iowa was all the rave. The fact that a victory speech is supposed to be all about broad vision and exciting one's base didn't seem to matter. Same thing only different for one Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Some would have us believe that MLK's "I Have A Dream" is the substance of the man, his vision and his plans. Far from it. "I Have A Dream" was not unlike Obama's or any presidential candidates victory (or concession) speech. It was made only to stipulate to his broad vision and motivated by his desire to excite and to continue to encourage his base.
The irony and hypocrisy is in reducing the substance of Dr. King to a motivational speech while insisting on politicians and other public figures outline and reveal their specific plans and map out how they are going to get us to the land they promise.
No rush. Any grand plots
No rush. Any grand plots of tricking Dubya into thinking today was Inauguration Day won't work by now, anyway.

A Hispanic is nothing more that a person, be they white or non-white, from a Spanish-speaking country. More than 50% of so-called "Hispanics" are self-identified white people. What is the news in the Nevada win? Mrs. Clinton got older white people, and women and whites in general. How is that expanding the electorate and getting males, Republicans, Independents, and non-whites in general. Her support is limited to older white females, and females. Barack Obama has been the one that has single-handely increased voter turnout, but it has gone disproportionately to Hillary Clinton thus far.
