All respect and no restraint

Accepting this proposal would be pure charity on Obama's part

On a conference call today, Howard Wolfson of the Clinton campaign has said that Hillary Clinton will appear in a Fox News debate on February 11 in Washington, DC.

Hillary wants a weekly debate because she's running low on money.

LATER: Read the comment. Since Hillary needs the debate, Obama should work it to his benefit. There's no need to involve media personnel in the debate at all.

Obama should only agree to

Obama should only agree to debates if a more traditional form of debate is adopted. Forget about idiot reporters asking questions of the candidates. Obama should take a page from the 19th Century and engage in debates with Billary on one substantial question at a time. They should, for example, debate the pros and cons of American War in Iraq. Take one hour or less and debate this issue. The follwing week they should tackle health care and so on.

Obama should avoid these scripted plastic events that have been foisted off on the American people as being debates. They are not debates. They are press conferences in which questions are asked of not one but two, three, four, five or six people. Bah Humbug!

Accept 1, make it NOT on Fox

Pick the moderator. But, a series of them, oh HELL No. He has campaigning to do. And make it AFTER the Chesapeake Primary.

The debates I want to see do

The debates I want to see do not need moderators, i.e., celebrity news anchors or members of the Order of Talking Heads. Why can't we just have an official from the association that sponsors university and college debates. When I was a kid I watched a televised debate between James Baldwin and William F. Buckley, Jr. that was held before the debating club at Oxford University in England. The question before them was whether or not the American Dream had been achieved at the expense of the American Negro. There was no celebrity moderator or any of the rest of that rigamarole that is so evident today.
