The $25 surcharge for these "Confederate Heritage" tags would fund educational and historical programs offered by Sons of Confederate Veterans. A spokesman for the group tells our corporate cousins at the Tallahassee Democrat that they have 30,000 people who are ready to buy the tags if they're approved.
That sucks. And here's one sane guy's response.
Why does this issue of a Confederate flag license plate rise up every few years? And seriously, can the story of the Confederacy truly be justified or even admired?
By all means, enjoy your collection of Confederate memorabilia, tour the battle fields and exhibits, wear your "Forgit, Hell!" t-shirts, but there's no need to wave the Confederate flag in everyone's face and insist that they like it -- legitimizing the rebel battle flag by displaying it on an official state license tag would be doing just that. Good, bad, right, wrong, it has long been a symbol of the worst phase in America's history and the worst aspect of American culture. The flag is a museum piece, and that's where it is best left.
Dixie... apparently, old times there are not forgotten.

I just love living in Florida. We will have to see if Gov Crist approves this. He has already demanded that racist portions of the official state song be removed, so this might have a tough time passing... at least I hope.
I just love NOT living in Florida.
The panhandle is where I grew up, ubstu. That's why I live in Colorado now.

Bradenton.... I do miss the west. I tried applying to the graduate program in history at UF but didn't get in. I am hoping to find acceptance to a graduate program within the near future.
Anyway, to the post.
I'll take these Confederate Heritage types at their word when they stop "forgetting" to explain just what part of that heritage it is they want to honor.
QB, I spent a lot of summers
QB, I spent a lot of summers in "lower Alabama" or the "redneck riviera" as it is known. My mother was born in Freeport and grew up in Pensacola and Defuniak Springs. I can understand why you escaped.
L.A.!
Haw! If you know about L.A.--lower Alabama--I know you're telling me true.
Did you mom go to school in Pensacola?
The largest ancestral group
The largest ancestral group in many deep southern states is African. Pride in your region should include appreciation for the largest ancestral group in your region.
Confederate License Plate
What is this GARBAGE writer talking about? Biased, hatred, discrimination towards the descendants of Confederate Southern Americans that's what. We worked hard got $60k and 30,000 signatures to meet the requirements of the law and you don't want the law to include us. You want us to be 2nd class citizens and lick your boots. Well go to H.....
What is this GARBAGE writer
If that's how you want to see it, fine. Speaking for myself, yes...when you wear or display that fucking swastika you might as well be displaying a god damn noose, and I WILL take it as evidence that you suck.
Fuck you and the failed revolution to protect Yoah Culchuh tat you rode in on.
