As to the first caller:

A popular ditty among Union soldiers during the Civil War went as follows,

"To the flag we are pledged, all its foes we abhor,

And we aint' for the nigger, but we are for the war." 

These feelings pretty much sum up the racial attitudes of a large majority of white soldiers who fought in the Civl War.    

As to the second caller and his remark about how black people don't adopt children of other races, black people have never been endowed with the arrogance that would lead them to believe that other races magically benefit from being in their presence.  I remember having a discussion about this on this site last year.  I asked what would be the response if Will and Jada Pinkett Smith adopted poor white kids from appalachia.  You mentioned that it might offend some black folk.

People can get along if they choose to get along. It’s never been a problem of blacks not wanting to get along with whites. Blacks maintain their racial identity given that assimilation is a survival mechanism, the act, in and of itself does not automatically lead to acceptance, it’s just the prerequisite.

White people haven’t lived up to the dream, when the dream is that everyone has the ability to have what they have always taken for granted.

Do we have to document all white folks' reactions?

I asked what would be the response if Will and Jada Pinkett Smith adopted poor white kids from appalachia.  You mentioned that it might offend some black folk.

I still think so. And I wonder if the caller would adopt a Black child or if he, per usual, takes credit for, and solace in, any decent deed by any white person.

Because they could have gone to Africa, if they wanted an international child. Yeah, I'm mad...LOL

Gotta call 'em like I see 'em...

The sad laments of two white men under siege and in fear of a black planet. We should ask Ourstorian and Ubstu34 to tell us approximately how many white Southerners died during the Civil War while trying to free the slaves.  I'm sure that somebody somewhere in this vast Republic of Ignorance has ferreted out this fact and written it down for future generations of black people to discover and hang their heads in shame while crying out, "Lawdy, Lawdy, we just didn't realize how much white folks in the South really loved us and wanted us to be free. Shame, shame on us for not honoring the sacrifices they made on our behalf. We darkies are ungrateful wretches." 

The second caller must be caught in a time warp because he makes the same shopworn argument that the now sainted William F. Buckley (The New York Times online edition is still carrying an unpaid announcement about a pending memorial service for him. I'm sure the Times will cover the event.) and James J. Kilpatrick were making when I was in elementary school. Black people, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. did not give two turds in the gutter if whites did not want to socialize with blacks. The issue was never about who was coming to dinner at your house. These folks will never get over themselves.  

As far as I am concerned Will Smith and Jada Pinkett can adopt any child their hearts desire. My wife and I adopted three African American children and we are all happy.(I wish they didn't need food or clothing or music lessons but that's the way it goes.) The Smith/Pinkett can adopt a Chinese child and I will not complain at all. That is their cross to bear. 

I will, however, say this: If they do adopt a Chinese child then it will confirm for me that they are members of the Church of Scientology or have watched Inn of the 6th Happiness too many times.   

And why would TCoS have an appeal for Will and Jada?

The reference to the movie should be the tip off that I'm making a joke. My tongue is firmly in cheek. I have no idea what religious beliefs Smith and Pinkett have and I don't really care to know.
