David Broder's friend still doesn't get it

Makes sense, because he works in Mrs. Bill Clinton's campaign (which also makes sense...).

On the day last week when Hillary Clinton suffered the first of two costly defections by Indiana superdelegates, I went to see an old friend working in her national campaign. I knew he was loyal to her, but I also calculated that if he were guaranteed anonymity, he would give me an honest answer to the vexing question: Does the Clinton camp still see any realistic way she can deny Barack Obama the Democratic nomination without blowing up the party?

Of course, the short answer is "no." But here's the part that annoys me personally.

But, as my friend acknowledged, they have not yet overcome the deep discomfort many of them feel as they contemplate taking the nomination away from Obama. They know that would break the hearts of his African American supporters, who have been the most loyal of Democratic constituencies.

"Break the hearts"?

Politician, please. Try anger.

They know that would anger his African American supporters, who have been the most loyal of Democratic constituencies.

Much better.

Speaking from a lifetime of experience, my friend said that under other circumstances, African Americans would show their love for Hillary Clinton (if not so much now for her husband). But at the moment, they see her only as a threat to knock out their favorite.

Nope. Missed it again. What we see in a politician that rewarded Black folks' loyalty with treachery. We know how her arguments (which go back to Bill Shaheen's drug dealer innuendo, Bob Kerrey's madrassa innuendo and Mark "Pig" Penn's validation, as it were, of both) poisons the well for any Black candidate.

In effect, my friend was saying that it may well be beyond Clinton's power to win the nomination without severely damaging the party. Only Obama can make her winning seem right.

...which set up the possibility of blaming Obama for the death of the party that will surely follow on assigning (because it will NOT be a win) the nomination to Mrs. Bill Clinton.

We, as a people, have seen

We, as a people, have seen and experienced all of God's dangers. There is nothing these folks can do to break our hearts. In addition, we are not children or dolts who need the condescending protection of folks like David Broder's friend. If Clinton was ahead of Barack right now in the pledged delegate count and had not played the race card to gain this advantage, black folk would suck up their disappointment and move on with the stoicism we have long acquired as a result of our experiences as individuals and as a people.

The reality, however, is that Clinton is not ahead of Barack in the pledged delegate count and is slowly losing her lead in the superdelegate count. Clinton cannot give away what she has never had and she can't spend what she ain't got.

Burn it, down, Baby. BURN IT DOWN.

My dear pt, tells the truth. We would have accepted it, with a little resignation, a big sad sigh, and gone on with life.

But, not now.

He played by the rules.

They keep on switching the bar and moving it, and suddenly the rules that everyone agreed to, no longer apply as they try the bull#*$& with FL and MI.

No, he's won it. Fair and square. Beginning with nothing; from scratch.

This isn't disappointment. It would be an unleashing of rage the likes of which they've never seen. And, it wouldn't be an ' in the streets' kind of thing. It's the quiet kind, a rebuke that would be so loud and obvious that they wouldn't see it coming until it was all over. It would be the end of the Democratic Party as they know it, and I wouldn't give a rat's ass.
