Speaking of the perspective older folks can bring, what do you think your father and mother would think about Obama and the present state of race relations in this country?

That's a great question! I hadn't really given much thought to what my parents might say had they lived to see it.

My father would have said it was inevitable.

(He also said that Tiger Woods was destined to become the greatest golfer of his generation, even though he would never live to see him turn pro.)

My mother would be cursing Hillary Clinton daily with every new derisive comment.

 (...And John Hope Franklin is always awesome, isn't he? I remember when it first aired! I've seen him on Charlie Rose more than a few times!)
