I would say Ferraro can't help it, but that lets her off the hook a bit.
Okay, sounds good so far...
Here we are at the end of the primary season, and the effects of racism and sexism on the campaign have resulted in a split within the Democratic Party that will not be easy to heal before election day. Perhaps it's because neither the Barack Obama campaign nor the media seem to understand what is at the heart of the anger on the part of women who feel that Hillary Clinton was treated unfairly because she is a woman or what is fueling the concern of Reagan Democrats for whom sexism isn't an issue, but reverse racism is.
Heifer went right off the rails...
We understand perfectly well what they are angry about. What I don't understand is why you're blaming Obama for Hillary nutcrackers. You want Obama to answer for the behavior of people unconnected to him and I'm just not going into how deeply stupid it would be for anyone to do that.
And "reverse racism."
Since March, when I was accused of being racist for a statement I made about the influence of blacks on Obama's historic campaign, people have been stopping me to express a common sentiment: If you're white you can't open your mouth without being accused of being racist.
The woman says, in a op-ed in the Boston Globe, that people stop her from spewing. Where else has she spewed. I saw her on Fox News, spewing all over Black journalists...Fox LIKES Gerry, I wonder why...
Oh, she's been explaining herself in the NY Times, too.
Geraldine Ferraro, who has been making headlines for months over what she contends is the sexist treatment of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in this presidential cycle, has penned an Op-Ed in the Boston Globe.
Oh! "Headlines for months" about this very topic! Then there's the Huffington Post, the L.A. Times, the goddamn Telegraph in Great Britain fer chrissake, I could go on and on with the media that reported how you may not vote for Obama.
No one has been stopping the heifer from talking. No one can.
They see Obama's playing the race card throughout the campaign and no one calling him for it as frightening.
And yet they can't name a single instance, or a single frightening thing he's said (which frankly may be a different kind of flaw, but...).
They're not upset with Obama because he's black; they're upset because they don't expect to be treated fairly because they're white. It's not racism that is driving them, it's racial resentment.
No, Gerry, you have the wrong formula. All together now: "Racism and race consciousness are two different things." Racial resentment IS racism. Really...just ask them what they are resentful of and why. There's literally no defense for it.
And that is enforced because they don't believe he understands them and their problems. That when he said in South Carolina after his victory "Our Time Has Come" they believe he is telling them that their time has passed....They may lack a formal higher education, but they're not stupid. What they're waiting for is assurance that an Obama administration won't leave them behind.
You know what...if they don't understand his explicit statements, they either ARE stupid or so fearful that there's no difference between their fear and stupidity.
At which point I must concede Ms. Ferraro is an ideal spokesman for them.

Forward and Reverse
I love that "reverse racism" bleating. These poor, poor white folks--can't get a decent break with the Black Man's boot on his (her) neck.
Maybe you can help me with this, P. Do you have a nice, clear...and SHORT...definition of racism? I understand that these so-called "Reagan Democrats" have some fears or frustrations and they start feeling defensive when they hear anybody say the words "white people" in any sort of negative context. In a scant few cases, they might even have a complaint that needs to be heard.
But "reverse racism"? It's no such thing. If only they had a good working definitio of racism to start with, they might be able to move forward an inch.
I don't have one they'd
I don't have one they'd accept. The term has been corrupted almost beyond usefulness.
"They're not upset with
"They're not upset with Obama because he's black; they're upset because they don't expect to be treated fairly because they're white. It's not racism that is driving them, it's racial resentment. "
These folks are convinced that black folks are going to dog them out and oppress them in the same exact way that they have dogged out and oppressed black people. And since none of them have a racist bone in their bodies or a racist sentiment in their souls, black folks' secret plans to seek vengeance against them - which are being held in a secure vault at the headquarters of the NAACP and will be implemented within 72 hours after Obama is sworn in while holding his right hand on the Koran - are unfair and an offense against God and hardworking white people everywhere.
In addition, Obama and Michelle, who are both mentioned in the Book of Revelations, have been secretly transmitting coded messages to black people urging them to stockpile weapons in preparation for the day their one true leader, Louis Farrakhan, issues his final orders to kill white people everywhere. At that time, black folks will reach under their beds and pull out their family heirloom engraved cotton chopping knives, remove the sheaths and proceed to slaughter any white person they encounter.
Black people, they believe, are issued magic decoders at birth that allow them to read Obama's race card that is being delivered to black households by the thousands each day by unsuspecting postal employees save for the ones who are black or who are from Puerto Rico.
Oops hope I din't tellygraph the answer there.
I can't see race or gender so somebody remind me which candidate has relentlessly crowed about the support she gets from her race and from her gender?
Black people, ... , are issued magic decoders at birth
This is good PT. Perhaps when Bill was the first black President, he got his hands on one of those magic decoders, and thought that he could use it as a shield in South Carolina; but, it didn't work for him. He and Hillary have been attempting to decipher the decoder every since. Someone should have told Bill and Hillary that if used improperly, those decoders work in reverse to reveal serious cases of racial resentment.
ptcruiser, that is hilarious!
We didn't have any land or wealth to pass along, but we damn sure kept thos cotton chopping knives!
pt, I nearly choked tonight reading your response
OMG. You were on a roll.
I'd truly love to just ask her -um, why don't you talk about his WHITE mother and WHITE grandparents who raised him? Just wondering, Gerry.
