All respect and no restraint

Skip Gates declares a do-over for James Watson, racist old coot

Y'all know I will be respectful, but you know I will be nasty when it is deserved.

dnA at Too Sense pointed out this interview wherein Skip Gates declares James Watson innocent. Never mind all the evidence Watson has given us over the years. It's nonsense like this that earned him a whole chapter on Houston A. Baker's Betrayal: How Black Intellectuals Have Abandoned the Ideals of the Civil Rights Era. As I said of his apologists before

You know what's more insulting than James Watson?

His apologists.

Still, even with the offensive and unreasonable remarks that appeared in print, it's hard not to feel a little bit sorry for Watson.

Not if you're Black. If you feel sorry for him, there is no anti-Black hostility you won't defend.

I can't help but wonder what the hell possessed Gates to write this. It's a direct debit to his and The Root's credibility. He is now on the list of Watson apologists.

Last fall, James Watson, the father of DNA, spoke the unspeakable, saying that blacks are intellectually inferior. In a conversation with The Root Editor-in-Chief Henry Louis Gates Jr., Watson clarified his views about race and genetics. Read what he says now — and why Gates regards him as "a racialist."

Racial resentment...racialist...you know why all the new terminology is coming out, right?

And not to put too fine a point on it, but "racist" is the only word that makes white people as crazy as "nigger" makes Black people. It makes them crazier. White people don't want to hear you talk about ANY white person being racist.

And we can't have crazy white folks running around ruining the reputation of the race, can we? (Sorry, I don't have time to link all the Hillaryites to properly invoke the satire). We can't have durable evidence that on of the intellectual giants of Western culture is a crazy, racist old coot.

Anyway, there's video of the interview and a partial transcript here

A conversation between The Root Editor-in-Chief Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Nobel laureate and DNA pioneer James Watson about race and genetics, Jewish intelligence, blacks and basketball and Watson's African roots.

Doesn't that topic list just whet your appetite?
