We have a "conservative Democrat" from Kentucky, arguing for more conservative judges. And we have a "grass roots Republican" not only echoing his argument, but saying that in the South, "grass roots Republicans" are, in the South, often "conservative Democrats".
This is why "Blue Dog Democrats" are regarded with suspicion in progressive circles. Fact is, the Solid South keeps enough representation in both parties to be able to play either against their specifically local interests.

Blue Dogs: Not living up to the name
The Blue Dog Democrats are not living up to their name. The Coalition touts fiscal responsibility, yet their voting pattern is anything but that. Recently, they supported almost to a man the Housing Bailout Bill, which will bail out the riskiest loans w/ up to $300 billion dollars of taxpayer money and increase the deficit by $22 billion. That's a lot of cash. This bill will be voted on finally in the House shortly after the congressional recess is over. Check out this site and call the Blue Dog Representative in your state and tell them to shape up and vote according to their montra:

Fiscal responsibility is
Fiscal responsibility is just the mantra that Blue Dog Democrats and their constituents use to shake everybody else loose from the federal tit. The folks they represent suck up every federal dollar they can get diverted to their respective districts. Name one military base or federal facility, for example, Blue Dog Democrats and their constituents have ever supported closing. Their primary objection is to spending money on folks who don't look like them.
All of these folks and the free pass the MSM gives them regarding the hypocrisy of their positions is disgraceful.
