Prometheus 6

All respect and no restraint

Jesus, iTunes may have finally got me

in

Invincible is seriously one of the best comics published. LATER: Sadly their guerilla marketers are idiots (see comments) so I will not only NOT be downloading this, I'll be avoiding anything produced by Gain with Bomb-xx or whatever. They just don't create anything vital enough for me to tolerate the smallest amount of idiocy.

Mr. Gale said the first 36 issues would be completed by mid-September. The first six installments will be previewed at the San Diego Comic-Con next week and will be more widely available beginning Aug. 22. They will be available for downloading on iTunes, Xbox Live and MTV Mobile, and televised on MTV2.

A Comic Book Superhero Is Headed to Small Screens
By GEORGE GENE GUSTINES

Up, up and away!

The animated adventures of the comic book superhero Invincible will soon be available on iTunes, mobile phones, the television channel MTV2 and more.

But it’s not quite animation in the traditional sense. “I like to think of it as cinematic comics — digital cinematic comics,” said David Gale, executive vice president of MTV New Media, which is producing the episodes in partnership with Gain Enterprises.

The process starts with digital scans of the actual comic book pages. They are turned into an audio-visual experience through a process called Bomb-xx developed by Gain. In the end, the formerly two-dimensional comic book suddenly pulses with music, while word balloons pop up and fill in as actors recite the dialogue and panels zoom in and out and pivot in all directions. The frenetic energy is not unlike that of an MTV video.

Of all the comics to “animate,” why start with Invincible? “When you’re looking for a movie property or television property, first and foremost you look for a great story,” Mr. Gale said. “It’s a single creator following a great story arc.”

Invincible was created by the writer Robert Kirkman and the artist Cory Walker. The series, which began in 2003, chronicles the life of Mark Grayson, the son of Omni-Man, a superhuman with alien origins, as he copes with college, superpowers and his legacy. The comic book, published by Image Comics, recently had its 50th issue.

Episodes 1 through 12 of the digital endeavor cover the first four issues of the comic series. “It takes a second to get used to watching the stuff move because they animated the actual comics,” Mr. Kirkman said. Still, “it’s thrilling to have actual actors saying lines that I wrote years and years ago.” There are spots he said he regrets not having edited but over all, he is happy about the wider exposure the character will receive.

Been off the comic scene for

Been off the comic scene for a long time. Never heard of Invincible before but based on your recommendation I'll pick it up. By the way, what did you think of Iron Man?

Invincible has an early

Invincible has an early Spiderman vibe, except he's more emotionally competent. And there's some interesting subplots. But mostly it's fun.

Iron Man was surprisingly good. I have the animated movies Marvel started releasing (two Avengers, Dr. Strange (which I enjoyed the most due to my bias toward cosmic and transdimensional fantasy) and Iron Man. You get a lot of room in an animation but the movie was actually better.

I know they traded the Yellow Peril for the Brown Peril but dammit I'm conscious 23/7. I demand my hour off.

I think Gain has developed

I think Gain has developed something very unique with Bomb xx or whatever. I've never seen something like this taking the actual comic book pages and animating it into something real. Invincible seems convincing so far.

You, sir, are an insider. I

You, sir, are an insider. I can't find an example of Bomb-xx animation.

From the description though, I anticipate a look similar to the Marvel Superheroes TV shows of the 60s. I think they cut the characters out of actual comic books.

Obviously, you didn't read

Obviously, you didn't read the article above, but your right, I'm an insider. You gotta get your facts straight bud. Next time read a little before wasting your time commenting ha. Nice job buddy.

I read the article, I just

I read the article, I just didn't notice the video link.

Nice guerilla marketing, though. It's good to know there are assholes behind Gain and Bomb-xx. Nice job, buddy.

P6, I don't know how you

P6, I don't know how you cope with inevitable foolishness. This reminds me of that fuckwad post you had a while ago about anonymity fostering uncivil behavior.

inevitable foolishness. I

inevitable foolishness.

I just give up my honest reaction then forget the fools.

What I don't understand is

What I don't understand is why didn't this person simply inform you that there was some additional information available that you might have overlooked rather than attack you? There is something about this medium that seems to attract these kinds of dysfunctional, smart-mouth jerks. I would have turned my oldest child (he is ten) onto this because he has an iPod that can accept films and photos but not now. Hell, I might have downloaded this product too because I am old comic book fan, but if they employ folks like that guerilla marketer, I can spend my time and money on other things.

Ditto. I was going to give

Ditto. I was going to give it a look as well, but there are indeed better ways to spend one's time for that foolishness.

its lookin pretty good so

its lookin pretty good so far. obviously there will be improvements if alot more need to come out but i gota give em a hand for the works thats been done. its prly not easy brining a comic book to life and i bet each episode will be better and better.

Sadly, after the last

Sadly, after the last guerilla marketer that came through here, we will never know. And neither will the other comic fans we would have told about it if we liked it.

In fact, I'm so done with the topic I think I'll close the comments on this thread.
