Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who will lose his job because he lied while under oath at a police whistle-blower trial, has just pledged to tell the truth as he prepares to admit his guilt as part of a plea deal he just struck with the Wayne County Prosecutor.
The deal calls for Kilpatrick to plead guilty to two felony counts of obstruction of justice by committing perjury, agreeing to serve four months in jail, pay up to $1 million in restitution, and serve five years' probation. He also agreed not to run for office during that five-year span.
The mayor will turn over his state pension to the City of Detroit, which paid $8.4 million to settle two whistle-blower lawsuits three former cops filed against the city. The mayor was charged with eight felony counts ranging from conspiracy to perjury to misconduct in office to obstruction of justice after the Free Press revealed that the mayor lied on the witness stand during a police whistle-blower trial and gave misleading testimony about whether he intended to fire a deputy police chief investigating allegations of wrongdoing by members of his inner circle.

Its over and Mr Kilpatrick
Its over and Mr Kilpatrick is out. The police chief also announced her "retirement", like she would have lasted more than a couple of days without Mr. Kilpatrick's support. I would like to see the text messages of the chief of police. She was more into political fixing, backstabbing, and B.S. than in running the police department.
I think Detroit will be saying goodby to most of Mr Kilpatricks relatives from their cushy, high paying, do nothing assistant department director jobs. And goodbye to his football buddies in their cushy jobs. And for god's sake, fire the damn law department (whores for Kwame).
This whole thing is like a greek play, sort of.
don't drop the soap
no sympathy
I’m totally discussed at
I’m totally discussed at his actions. I was really a fan of Kilpatrick, really thought he would bring change to Detroit, and that he would be a fixture in Black politics for years to come. I really hoped that these charges were the result of fishing for reasons to remove a young Black man politician form office. But with all the scrutiny Black politicians have to put up with, knowing that Blacks have to be well above bar – twice as good as whites – in any endeavor we undertake, and knowing that the fact that he is Black alone puts him under a gargantuan microscope as mayor, he should have known better than to embark on this sort of juvenile fling. Kilpatrick should have known that there are always haters, who are already suspicious of Black politicians, waiting for him to fuck up and give them a reason to kick him out of office. Kilpatrick gave them just what they wanted on a silver platter. This is a problem that he could have easily avoided so I harbor no sympathy for him, only for his wife. He deserves just what he’s getting because he earned it.
If Kwame Kilpatrick had
If Kwame Kilpatrick had simply confessed to the affair with his chief of staff from the jump, apologized and made amends none of this would have happened. None of it. What an idiot. What is it about guys like Kilpatrick and Bill Clinton?
Kilpatrick should have known
I don't think Kilpatrick's troubles have anything at all to do with "haters." You can't be a married elected official and carry on an affair with your chief of staff. Everybody knew. Everybody. Even his wife.
I know his problems were not
I know his problems were not his haters. My point was that he opened himself up for the haters to speak by having the affair. It matters little who are how many peolpe knew.
My point was that he opened
Well, I suspect that it was a misguided emphasis on making the haters shut up that led Kilpatrick and his team to force the illegal firing of at least two members of the police department who subsequently sued the city for wrongful termination. It was during these proceedings that Kilpatrick and his chief of staff lied under oath.
It always matters how many people know if you have done something that you want to keep secret. The problem is that you can't be the mayor of a major American city and keep it secret that you are having an extramarital affair with your chief of staff. Everybody knows already. The moment the story came out he should have confessed and did the repentance scene. Folks love repentance scenes especially if Jesus is added to the mix.
i'm just hoping that the
i'm just hoping that the reason he lied under oath was because he was arrogant and foolish, rather than because he had something to do with the death of a young woman attached to the alleged party.
The Murdered Young Woman
Was this the young woman who was confronted and allegedly assaulted at a party by Kilpatrick's wife?
she was a stripper, pt
young pretty girl. I believe if you go to Skeptical Brotha, he has a picture of her and the story.
Thanks, Rikyrah
Here is the link to Skeptical Brother's story. Sad. Somebody killed that young woman and the truth will come out.

Bread crumbs...
"...Somebody killed that young woman and the truth will come out."
I've been watching this one for awhile, following the crumbs all the way back to the 'Gingerbread House'...
Kwame's Comeback
From Crains Business Detroit: Mr Kilpatick's speech to city workers after making deal.
"I truly know who I am. I truly know where I come from. In Detroit I know who I am. And I know because of that, there's another day for me," he said in a 20-minute speech on live television. "I want to tell you, Detroit, that you done set me up for a comeback."
-Kwame Kilpatrick
Mr Kilpatrick still has about $1.3 million in his campaign fund.
Kwame's Lament
Kilpatrick talks as if he still does not appreciate the consequences of his actions.
pt, I hope I'm not being
pt, I hope I'm not being misunderstood here. But I'm not supporting him in any way or making excuses for him. As a said he has brought this on himself. To me, I don't care how may people knew. The fact that he did it at all to put himself in that position is what I'm speaking of.

I hear you! Our disagreement is very small. We all do things that we later regret. I can't blame him for having the affair although I think he acted rashly and foolishly in doing so. Once word of the relationship leaked out, however, he should have given it up. Having an extramarital affair is extremely messy and complicated but it is not a felony beef. Again, I hear you.
