Those Palin sketches are seriously effective and therefore funny as hell. Maybe it's the other way around for some folks, but funny and effective are both in there.
I'll miss Tina and SNL when the election is over.
LATER: I have to admit, it's pretty weird when you get infatuated with a woman for imitating a woman you don't like... anyway, I got up early to grab this as soon as I could.

SNL: Even better than the real thing...
"...I have to admit, it's pretty weird when you get infatuated with a woman for imitating a woman you don't like."
(...Right? But you know as soon as the debate ended, I have to believe most EVERYBODY was wondering how SNL was going to spin it!)
The Biden spin was pretty funny too!
(...And, last but not least, give 'The Queen' her props, her reaction looks were priceless!)
I have to believe most
Yeah, that's why I stayed up past my bedtime to watch the opening.
The Biden piece was quite good. And I wish Ms. Ifill HAD hawked her upcoming book when the debate started. Folks think the Reupblican pre-spin got into her head but her demeanor actually fit the "professional persona" Black folks must have to succeed in the public eye.
I loved the wig on The Queen and the hawking of the book
those were little details too funny for words, and I even enjoyed Biden.
Folks think the Republican

Why or why not would it be legitimate to consider this "selling out" or a sign of weakness on Ifill's part? One of my friends is fond of derisively calling Barack Obama an "accomodationist Negro." But I just don't see any other way for a national leader. Is there one? Does being a successful black professional mean that you never get to call a 'mother fucker' a 'mother fucker' without undermining yourself in the process. Or is maintaining your composure in the face of an assault a form of defiance? I get so confused trying to figure this out but I hope you and others can help me out.
Does being a successful
Yes.
No.
When you're looking for an official position in the hierarchy, though, you don't want defiance anyway. You want control. Defiance can be an effective internal substitute for control ("They can't control me" ~ "I control myself"), but externally the difference is kind of obvious...for instance, McCain looks defiant rather than in control.
If you are defiant you are by definition not in control.
