All respect and no restraint

Ruining my reputation

Whether in a dark alley or a corporate office, I'd better not ever meet Tucker Carlson.

So Jeremiah Wright probably won't figure directly in this campaign. But at some point, it would be nice to hear Obama explain his relationship with Wright. Obama already did that, you say? Laid the matter to rest in that lovely March 18th speech on race relations that made you think of Bobby Kennedy and MLK? Go back and read that speech carefully. Once you subtract Obama's eloquence, it doesn't sound so groundbreaking. It sounds like something Jesse Jackson could have delivered.

The thesis of the speech, the entire point of delivering it, comes toward the end, as Obama explains why he will not disavow a man who has just been revealed as a race-baiter. The reason? Because America has a long history of white racism. “This is the reality in which Reverend Wright and other African-Americans of his generation grew up,” Obama said. ‘They came of age in the late fifties and early sixties, a time when segregation was still the law of the land and opportunity was systematically constricted.”

In other words, people of a certain color were once cruel to Wright, therefore we ought to understand why he lashes out against an entire race. It's the Bernard Goetz defense.

No wonder his punk ass lost his TV show. Hateful bastard.

there are entire neighborhoods where this punk.ass.bitch

better never be caught.

period.

The ignorant little bitch

The ignorant little bitch ass writes like there was a difference between "people of a certain color"...doesn't even have the courage to say white people... and "an entire race" at the time.

It's my belief that the

It's my belief that the Republicans are not going after Wright for ethical reasons, but because it could backfire tactically. Obama shined during his speech in March and proved that he could effectively address an issue of significant importance. If McCain pursued the issue of Rev Wright, he would have to defend and explain his party's comfy relationship with racial bigots and right-wing religious fanatics. McCain is not prepared to comment on these matters; and if he did, it might go down even worse than his performance during the debates and his unsteady response to the Wall Street crisis. Besides, they can let the Tucker Carlson's of the world bring up Wright. Most voters already have an impression of who Rev Wright is, so why not cover ground by filling the airwaves with the lesser known Ayers whose sins have not been continuously broadcast on YouTube for weeks and weeks? Obama had to give special consideration to addressing Wright because they shared an intimate and close relationship for a period of twenty years. His relationship with Ayers has had absolutely no role in determining how he views the world which makes the GOP tactic of making this an issue more insidious. If the McCain campaign succeeded in goading Obama to deliver a comprehensive speech on the legacy of the Vietnam War, they could take control of the developing narrative and pin Obama with the guilt of associating with someone who took part in plans to bomb the Pentagon while McCain suffered on behalf of his country as a prisoner of war. McCain could score more political points with a discussion of his military sacrifices than a discussion which attempts to justify his party's opposition to civil rights by turning it into a "constitutional issue." Obama is not going to fall for their bluff which is no more than a pitiful attempt to incite hatred and allow McCain the opportunity to play his POW card.

Dumbf-ck, what he quoted

Dumbf-ck, what he quoted from Obama's speech wasn't towards the end of the speech. There are approximately 30 paragraphs of text that come after the paragraph containing "This is the reality in which Reverend Wright and other African-Americans of his generation grew up." And the sucka obvioiusly didn't read the paragraphs immediately after what he quoted. If he did, he would have read how Obama dismissed Rev. Wright as the "angry Black man" whose "anger" was counterproductive even when Obama's rhetoric towards the end of the speech complicated the standard reaction to so-called Black "anger."

If Sucker Carlson was honest and if he actually read Obama's speech, he would know that Obama privileged White anger and resentment, said that it was wrong to label White folks misdirected angst over affirmative action as racist...

Beyond that, Sucker needs to get a clue. Early in the primary Obama did deliver a speech that had shades of Jesse. That speech contained the cadence and Rainbow Coalition theme in what is one great piece of American rhetoric: Jesse's American patchwork, quilt speech. Tucker was probably to young and definitely too dumb to understand those rhythmic sounds.

Oh and I'd really like to call his bluff and ask him to name that Jesse Jackson speech AND the problem he had with it.

Re: The Bernard Goetz defense... Please, dear Sucker Carlson, do tell why Obama defended middle class, working class and poor Whites and painted them as victims of the ruling White elite and conservatives who exploit them even when they have historically been willing participants in perpetrating racism and racist violence against African-Americans.

I got some quotes for ya...

Most working- and middle-class white Americans don't feel that they have been particularly privileged by their race. Their experience is the immigrant experience - as far as they're concerned, no one's handed them anything, they've built it from scratch. They've worked hard all their lives, many times only to see their jobs shipped overseas or their pension dumped after a lifetime of labor. They are anxious about their futures, and feel their dreams slipping away; in an era of stagnant wages and global competition, opportunity comes to be seen as a zero sum game, in which your dreams come at my expense. So when they are told to bus their children to a school across town; when they hear that an African American is getting an advantage in landing a good job or a spot in a good college because of an injustice that they themselves never committed; when they're told that their fears about crime in urban neighborhoods are somehow prejudiced, resentment builds over time.

... Anger over welfare and affirmative action helped forge the Reagan Coalition. Politicians routinely exploited fears of crime for their own electoral ends. Talk show hosts and conservative commentators built entire careers unmasking bogus claims of racism while dismissing legitimate discussions of racial injustice and inequality as mere political correctness or reverse racism.

Just as black anger often proved counterproductive, so have these white resentments distracted attention from the real culprits of the middle class squeeze - a corporate culture rife with inside dealing, questionable accounting practices, and short-term greed; a Washington dominated by lobbyists and special interests; economic policies that favor the few over the many. And yet, to wish away the resentments of white Americans, to label them as misguided or even racist, without recognizing they are grounded in legitimate concerns - this too widens the racial divide, and blocks the path to understanding.

So White anger merely "distracts" attention away from the "real culprits" and middle class, working class and poor Whites are "victims" baring no personal responsibility for what happens to them or their racial hostility towards Black people just because we dared demand basic civil rights, justice, equality and opportunity... Hmmm... I wonder why Mr. Conservative Sucker Carlson didn't have anything to say about that. Why he failed to mention that whatever has happened to middle class, working class and poor Whites has been due to somebody else exploiting them.

No how does that compare to what Obama said about "bitter", angry Black people? (Note: Obama's comments about "bitter" Whites carried the same middle/working class Whites-as-victims exploited by politicians theme.)

For the men and women of Reverend Wright's generation, the memories of humiliation and doubt and fear have not gone away; nor has the anger and the bitterness of those years. That anger may not get expressed in public...

... occasionally it finds voice in the church on Sunday morning, in the pulpit and in the pews. The fact that so many people are surprised to hear that anger in some of Reverend Wright's sermons simply reminds us of the old truism that the most segregated hour in American life occurs on Sunday morning. That anger is not always productive; indeed, all too often it distracts attention from solving real problems; it keeps us from squarely facing our own complicity in our condition, and prevents the African-American community from forging the alliances it needs to bring about real change. But the anger is real; it is powerful; and to simply wish it away, to condemn it without understanding its roots, only serves to widen the chasm of misunderstanding that exists between the races.

Hmmm.... Personal responsibility for me but none for, how do they say, "Whitey."

Interesting. I'm sure Sucker can find plenty of Jesse Jackson speeches like that.

If McCain pursued the issue

If McCain pursued the issue of Rev Wright, he would have to defend and explain his party's comfy relationship with racial bigots and right-wing religious fanatics.

Might also have to understand that during the 20 years "Obama sat in a pew" they couldn't find more than 20 seconds to be offended at...and that Wright is as much a military man as McCain.

Mr. Conservative Sucker

Mr. Conservative Sucker Carlson

Um...that's Fucker Carlson.

Don't want to get it twisted...

thanks

I Cannot Stand Him

I hope my numerous emails to MSNBC to get rid of Tucker made a difference. When Dan Abrams had an interim show, I wrote him too and told him to keep lame azzed Tucker off the show or his program would fail as well! Where's that clip where John Stewart called him a "dick" on Crossfire? I laughed all night long!

Oh, and he's so fixated on Barack and his manhood (like Tucker has any room to question anyone's but his own), I think he has a man crush on him. I'd like to punch him myself! LOL!
