When an intelligent design guy walks away from a school board meeting satisfied, it's hard to see it as anything but a loss for the Forces of Reason.
Failing to overhaul the curriculum broadly, conservatives instead attached a series of measures specific to subjects like biology, where teachers would be newly required to “analyze and evaluate the sufficiency or insufficiency of natural selection to explain the complexity of the cell.”
In the earth-science curriculum, conservatives weakened language concerning “the concept of an expanding universe” to address instead “current theories of the evolution of the universe including estimates for the age of the universe.”...
A conservative board member, Bob Craig of Lubbock, expressed satisfaction with the overall changes.
“I personally believe that language is good language,” Mr. Craig said in an interview. “It allows for full discussion of all sides of the issue.”

I find the debate to be
I find the debate to be extremely interesing from a psychological standpoint. How do people deal with objective information that threatens to radically alter their worldview? How does the human mind cope with radical changes to its self-concept?
Yeah, but
Imagine you were the operator of a car with some passenger who was professing that a God was making the car run.The thing is that you have valuables inside and outsiders are always trying to poach your stuff and sometimes steal the car outright. Dude riding with you likes to fight and can reasonably kick ass, too.
The car breaks down intermittently and as you're fixing it he prays to this God and when the car works again he says "see, God heard my prayer!" Now this fellow doesn't appreciate certain aspects of your tinkering with the car because he thinks God doesn't like it. So he undermines and blocks your efforts.
But he can only go so far because he benefits from any advancements you make. For the sake of expediency and to maintain relative stability, you can let him place a spoiler and bumper stickers on the car referencing God without negatively affecting overall efficiency. The true task for you is to make sure that he never ever drives unsupervised or attempts to make significant repairs and adjustments beyond a rudimentary oil and tire change.
The magical thinker can provide unmatched fervor and fearlessness of death needed to successfully prosecute war. But only the scientist can unlock the secret of the atom. Therefore, the state values both. Besides these so-called bibtards provide great cannon fodder.
Nah, but
submariner:
Imagine your passenger thinks he's sterring by smacking you in the head when you go somewhere he doesn't want to go.
And to the point, these idiots set textbook standards nationwide because they buy so many books.

Simple observation: unless the new thing is in their face 24/7, they pretend it never happened. And if it is, they make up something that "must have been true" to bridge the gap between belief and reality.
sure
but school textbooks are all full of crap. Take subjects like history, English and, at the higher level, economics.
I think I'll yield the point
I think I'll yield the point before someone notices systemic distribution of bad data bothers me more than high levels of violence.
LOL.
I can dig it. Although my line of work makes me somewhat inured to it.
