All respect and no restraint

"Ethanol fuels with low moisture content will corrode the internal surface of the fuel rails."

"Does the average citizen understand what this means? In from 10 to 20 years this country will be dependent entirely upon outside sources for a supply of liquid fuels … paying out vast sums yearly in order to obtain supplies of crude oil from Mexico, Russia, and Persia."—Yale Professor Harold Hibbert, ethanol promoter, 1925

More than one major transportation-based industry in America besides Detroit is on the ropes. For the fourth time in our history the ethanol industry has come undone and is quickly failing nationally. Of course it's one thing when Detroit collapsed with the economy; after all, that is a truly free-market enterprise and the economy hasn't been good. But the fact that the ethanol industry is going bankrupt, when the only reason we use this additive is a massive government mandate, is outrageous at best.

Then again, the ethanol lobby and refiners have a solution to ethanol's failure in America: Hire retired General Wesley Clark as your point man and lobby the government to increase the amount of ethanol in our fuel to 15%. The problems with that proposition are real—unlike ethanol's benefits.

I'm not sure where Mr. Wallace is getting his information, but ethanol does not harm car engines, especially engines built after 1992.  IIRC, customers in some states are already using a mild (10%) ethanol blend during the summer months,  All U.S. manufacturers offer flex-fuel engines that can run on E85 or gasoline -- such engines only require minor modifications to the fuel storage & delivery systems..  In Brazil, drivers have been using E100 for years.

I'd guess it's the failure to make those minor modifications that's the problem.

ETHANOL OR DEATH

HI YA FROM BRAZIL: JUST HEARD IN LOCAL RIO DE JANEIRO'S RADIO PETROBRAS (BRAZILIAN OIL CO) PRESIDENT SAYING THAT FUTURE GAS STATIONS SHOULD BE CALLED ETHANOL STATIONS!!! I THINK THTA THIS MATTER OF RUSTING INSIDE'S ENGINES SHOULD BE RESEARCHED BY YOUR LOCAL CONSUMERS' INVESTIGATIVE UNITS, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. OVER HERE IN THE 80'S WHEN ETHANOL WAS FIRST HAILED AS A SOLUTION FOR OUR PROBLEMS, OUR FIRST CARBURETORS DID RUST IN NO TIME. tAXI DRIEVERS USED TO HAVE THREE OF THEM: ONE INSIDE THE ENGINE, THE OTHER AS A RESERVE AND THE THIRD BEEN WORKED AT THE SHOP FOR FUTURE USE... YOU MAY GUESS WHICH ARRANGEMENTS YOU MAY HAVE TO MAKE TO RESOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS.
