It wasn't pretty. Maddow was trying to establish principles of diversity but Buchanan is by far the more skilled when he's on his favored turf. Notice that he had a response for each of Maddow's objections that was consistent with his world view, although his answers to difficult questions were like, "I think a lot of people got up there for a lot of reasons," and sadly she was too into her preplanned approach to say something like, "Why don't you name those reasons, since that's what I asked you?"
Diversity per se isn't one of my issues. HOWEVER...
The first thing you need to do is cut loose the New Haven decision. Acknowledge it as a flawed attempt at a noble goal and do not worry about supporting or explaining it as anything but a failure by New Haven to plan correctly, ever again. Indicate that the net result...that people will check to insure their requirements are relevant to the job ahead of time...is actually a pretty good outcome. That's the good thing about diversity. Even a failed attempt improves things if you learn from it.

I was watching yesterday and at the time I felt, "poor Rachel, Pat really creamed her." Rush is going to have a lot of fun with this today. When she first announced that Pat was her quest and the topic was - more or less - affirmative action my first thought was that she would be far over matched. In the end Rachel was right but Pat has far more experience debating this, well before Rachel was born. What Pat represents (and to a larger extent, Rush) is the classic white male mentality. White people in general, white males in particular, are not comfortable in a equal environment. To paraphrase Dr. Welsing, white supremacy is at once exploded in equitable circumstances. There is a point that I think thinking Blacks need to understand: When people like Pat and Rush speak they are expressing the white consciousness and built-in fears.
What did this shithead ever
What did this shithead ever do for his country that deserves recognition, except write speeches for a guy who pissed on the Constitution?
This is not a good
This is not a good description to use around Black folk, but he's been The White Man's Farrakhan. You might be able to call him The White Man's Sharpton around the Black bourgeoisie and get the same point across.
By saying things that candidates on his team cannot say because they can't get too far from The American Self-Image, they don't have to say those things themselves.
Farrakhan is a better description.
Don't be slamming Rev. Al like that.
