Cheyenne's stepfather, Douglas Cronberger, 32, owned a semi-automatic pistol that he normally kept in a secure location, out of the reach of Cheyenne and the couple's 1-year-old child, Ashe said. But after taking it out to investigate a possible prowler, Cronberger left it on a table and forgot about it, officials said....
When Cheyenne fired the gun, Ashe said, her mother, Tina Ann Cronberger, 32, was within three feet of her child. Cheyenne was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.

How could you leave a gun on
How could you leave a gun on the table and forget about it? He forgot about it for how long? An hour? 6 hours? 24 hours? 2 days? He needed a gun to "investigate" a prowler? Bull!
perhaps, it is an unfair thing to say . . . .
but one wonders whether the stepfather would have been as careless if the girl had been his daughter instead of stepdaughter
there is an emotional intensity about watching out for your biological kids that I doubt that can be replicated
there is an emotional
Maybe there is, but my three children are adopted and I wouldn't leave a weapon such as a gun on a table for a heartbeat. My guns are kept in locked cases and the keys to open the cases are kept in another locked case in another part of the house. And I have a very large axe handle and a baseball bat I keep in the closet for potential prowlers.
Surprised
I'm surprised the NRA and the rest of the bunch haven't flipped it and started protesting in front of nintendo headquarters.
