Split the consideration of extending the Bush tax cut in two parts. Vote on two bills, one to set the tax rates for folks making less than $250K and one for everyone else. Schedule them in that order. Make Republicans vote on the tax cut for the middle class and below before they can make the case for cutting taxes on that top 2%.
In fact, now that they've punted, they should fast track it during the lame duck session, and not schedule the vote on the rich guy tax cut until the Senate vote on the broke guy tax cut. Which progressive, or even liberal, Democrat can filibuster in the Senate.

It's a foggy morning so here's a foggy question
I occasionally let dreary days affect my mood.... Based on what we've seen so far, do the existing Democrats have the will to carry out such a plan?
Eh, duh. Isn't that just
Eh, duh. Isn't that just plain old good politics?
Can I just be honest? I'm starting to think a great many of the Dems are afraid of losing their "Country Club" pass, which is like the ghetto pass but for white people who're relatively financially well-off. I've none the Dems to be soft, but hardly this soft. They let the Repubs set the frame of discussion for everything. No matter how stupid. Growing up, there've always been poli-ads where I live with Dems declaring their independence from the party-line. Though, I'm not sure I really remember Repubs doing the same. So it's not rare that a Dem would tout voting against, for example, some part of Clinton's agenda or voting with Repubs. But Jon Stewart just rolled 2 or 3 clips of Dems seeming to actually campaign against their president and House speaker. I'm nearly positive I've never seen that.
And it would be so easy, in my estimation, to campaign against the Repubs and their pledge. I could make mince meat out of'em without lying or exposing their racism. So, what's the problem with the pros? Where's Donna Brazille?

Excellent follow-up questions:

We don't expect (at this point) Clintonite Paul Begala to jump in on this, as he will still be employed regardless of who controls Congress. Maybe not Roland Martin either (he's sympathetic to black farmers at least but must never have known any) but somebody should be in somebody's face. Dang, I guess it's Rachel. The first 4 minutes of this is classic and should maybe be a top-level post, ahem ahem (I said I was in a mood):

That's why I said it's what Pelosi should do. This would force Democrats' hand even more than Republicans.
@P6
She might, as an individual and a proud "San Francisco Liberal" do something if she really feels secure enough. This would be for me in the "hope" column of "hope and change."
I'm sorry, profgeo. I
I'm sorry, profgeo. I couldn't bring myself to watch all of Rachel's clip. Too depressing.
What's the matter with these people?
