This is a day of significance for several reasons. Therefore I may or may not post what you expect.

Do you know what your average evangelical Christian gets from his religion? If when explaining you have to take a breath in the middle of a sentence, you probably don't.
You should listen to the sermons. Don't worry about the justification. Listen for the attitudes about themselves they should assume, for the behavior they would evoke in the listeners. Because if you listen you'll hear them being told
- You're not perfect
- But that's okay
Know what else you'll hear?
- You've got problems
- The way forward is the way through
You do not want to contend with that. You can argue until the cows come home and it does no good because all the myth and metaphor is invoked in support of these things which, in the end, are fundamentally true of everyone. Behaviorally speaking, not on any conscious, decision making level.
And understand that your every problem can be traced to a denial or suppression of one or more of these truths.
