All respect and no restraint

About me, not you

Bear with me a while longer

My pupils are dilated and I can't read yet.

The "Just Letting You Know" Open Thread

I just got up. I have no idea when I'll feel like looking at the news today.

Year end status

This has been a hectic year for me, with a bad, bad ending. That death in the family I mentioned a couple of weeks ago was my brother. He was found in his apartment, in bed, about a week after he died, and the Medical Examiner still hasn't definitively identified the body due to people dicking around with retrieving his medical records during the holidays.

And I had to complete a programming project I took on just prior to that disaster, while keeping P6 running. That's why you saw days with four or five long posts instead of 15-20 short ones and a long one. Another result was I felt forced to leave off development of Intrapolitics.org. That will resume this weekend. Hopefully I still got partners...

Then there's this discussion...I can do the tech; managing such a site is questionable at this point. I'm not at my limit but I can see it from here.

So...

I got some email inviting me to this thing at the end of January.

Strategizing for Democratic Survival

A Collaborative Strategy Summit for Media Pros, Scholars,
Activists and Whistleblowers Working for Truth, Transparency
and an Informed Resurgent Democracy

One of the sponsoring organizations is 911Truth.org, which frankly does not impress me. Many of the other sponsors do. I'm really mixed about whether or not to attend.

The conference is in Santa Cruz, which would let me visit some folks in the Bay Area that I haven't seen in way too long. In fact, I had a two hour phone conversation with one of the two remaining people I am willing to talk to for that long on the phone. I think I'm looking forward to seeing my friends a lot more than a media planning summit, even one held by a truly left progressive crew.

Adulthood and big families

I have found the greater part of adulthood involved watching people you care for get old or sick, and die. And the down side of being in a large family is having so many people to mourn.

The promised bloviation may wait for a while.

Attention folks who sent email

Can't even look at it until late tomorrow.

Things I am not doing today

Writing, celebrating, reading news, thinking about anything politically relevant, linking (with a single exceptional exception I encountered before realizing I wasn't really going to read stuff today)...

Thought I'd let you know.

Meta Me

My ISP is having latency problems. The site is moving so slow, your RSS reader will likely time out. And since both my sites are on the same account it affects them both, resulting in an avatar with no goddamn patience. I'm spending 4-5 minutes per post waiting for previews and page loads.

Rather than suffer, I decided I'd just write something off-line and call it a day. I'm feeling kind of meta today...well, recently, actually...so we may drift.

Paranoia time

This site slows down when I write effectively on some topics.

A heads up

I'm going to have to do something about increasing my income, and however I manage to do that I'm sure it will be a time suck. Ergo, blogging will change around here. I've decided if a choice must be made between P6 and Intrapolitics.org I'll choose the latter. P6 wouldn't go away, it would just become static.

I can't say what else will change until a change is required. I just know a change will be necessary, and I may not remember to explain whatever it is when I do it.

Break time

Not a open thread per se; I'm just feeling a bit oppressed after spending all week hip deep in white folks' not knowing. So I'm going to find me a Japanese restaurant before blogging the Tavis joint, which does threaten to be interesting. Lotta Republicans are expecting nothing but "gotcha" questions, which lets you know THEIR level of race consciousness. Meanwhile, the three reporters are people quite comfortable with Republicans,,,Juan Williams, Cynthia Tucker and Ray Suarez.

That's right...Ray Suarez of PBS. They ran out of Black folks willing to take them seriously.

So the questions should be as interesting as the answers.

I had to fuck up and admit I know him

I am the worst person in the world to tag with a meme because if I respond to it, it stops dead with me. I have to actually have met you in meat space to really care about your personals, and not even always then.

Just being real. It's a consciously made decision that allows me to be totally inflexible whenever I see the need. Anyway...

# Link 1 must be about family.
http://www.prometheus6.org/node/859

# Link 2 must be about friends.
http://www.prometheus6.org/node/13121

# Link 3 must be about yourself, who you are... what you're all about...
http://www.prometheus6.org/node/205

# Link 4 must be about something you love

Okay, I gotta break in here. To me, the idea of loving a thing is weird. I am too old to believe in romantic love. I rarely use the word, as I consider this...

But what I have in mind here is those for whom one steps out from behind all the mental and spiritual barriers we erect. All those you're aware of, anyway. And for me, only my daughter qualifies. So this is a conversation we had once.

# Link 5 can be anything you choose.

Okay, now I can hear it myself

News & Notes, September 5, 2007 · Farai Chideya and a panel of bloggers are breaking down why the FBI surveiled Coretta Scott King, Ireland's opening of an all-black school, and what's on Congress' plate as it returns from summer recess. Joining her are Brandon Whitney, who writes the blog "Homeland Colors"; Shay Riley of the blog "Booker Rising"; and Earl Dunovant, who runs the Websites "Prometheus 6" and "Intra-Politics."

It's actually Intrapolitics.org...communications got a little twisted due to the holiday.

The Open Media open thread

I'll be doing News and Notes next Wednesday. Originally scheduled for this week, but I got bumped by Hurricane Katrina. I'll send in a couple of topics of interest tomorrow morning, so if you got ideas, you got that long.

For the record, my co-stars will be Shay from Booker Rising and Brandon Whitney of Homeland Colors.

Sorry

It was one of those days...

Last minute notice

I'll be part of the blogger's roundtable today on Farai Chedeya's News and Notes. I'd have given you more notice but it was going to be next week until someone dropped out. Link to the show will follow, of course.

I'm starting to think people feel there's more than one person running the joint.

I've never been anonymous. Even if I wanted to be I wouldn't be now because a dick decided early on he'd expose my identity as punishment for being a Black partisan. Fat lot of good it did him...

Still, I was asked the other day on the phone, "Are you the elusive Prometheus 6?" And I was asked by email for more info on "the person(s) behind Prometheus 6."

There's only one person behind this site. I do the writing, I set up and manage the site software (Drupal) and write the customizations I need (which tend to be minor, or whole modules), I set my PVR for interesting shows and record video clips when I replay them.

And everything anyone needs to know about me is summed up in the site's motto. All respect, no restraint. It's the Lion's Roar, if you prefer Mahayana flavor.

I'm back

We got transformative possibilites which I will not discuss because not a single one of them is firm. Hell, I just found out about two of them like ten minutes ago when I checked my email for the first time since Monday.

I also just found out Mayor Bloomberg switched parties. He's a DINO now.

Cripes. I'm starting to feel like there should be proportional representation by class. It would work until the bribes get big enough.

You know what?

It's a slow, grey day and nothing in the news is interesting me.

I'll post something if something gets my attention.

I got tagged again

Sylvia at The Anti-Essentialist Conundrum did it. I'm not going to pass this along, because it is much better for me (in particular) to NOT think in terms of favorite blogs. I would wind up getting attached to folks.

So what I'll do instead is pass along BrownFemiPower's strong suggestion that you send a couple of worthies to the Allied Media Conference being held in Detroit on June 22-24th.

eight random things about me

Okay, Kim.

  1. I haven't gone 6 months without a trip to the comic store since I was four years old
  2. The second favorite hobby I ever had was slight of hand magic
  3. The book that had the biggest impact on me is Tibetan Yoga and Secret Doctrines: Or, Seven Books of Wisdom of the Great Path
  4. I like a $10 cabernet sauvignon better than a $25 one
  5. I like a 21 year old single malt highland scotch a LOT more than a blended scotch
  6. I was into amateur theater in high school
  7. I got heroes from the Confederate side of the Northern War of Aggression in my family tree
  8. There actually aren't eight random things about me

Figuring me out

Couple of clues for the curious.

I had a conversation at MaxAmbit that you might be interested in...wanders a little, which is unusual for me.

And a major principle I use when modeling humans is, the ultimate goal is Do Nothing, Have Everything. Anything that brings a person closer to that goal will be deemed good.

For the curious among you

I don't get a ton of site-related email, but that which I do get is interesting. Recently I answered some questions related to my use of the name Prometheus.

I get interesting web searches in , too...web searches for "pics of Prometheus" and today, "biography of prometheus". That last one made me decide to share my answers to the questions about the site name, and one or two other things.

I almost feel guilty

I'm getting a ton of referrals from Yahoo! due to an intentionally ambiguous headline.
